For ESL Only:
- Fill out and submit YSU ESL Application Form. Make sure that you check the conditional admission box and indicate your intended major. If you are located in Mainland China, please download the fillable ESL Application PDF Form*, complete and sign it. Then email the scanned copy of the form to intadm@ysu.edu.
- Pay the $45 application fee online through the e-pay system.
- Submit a copy of your passport information page.
- Submit a certified translated copy of your certification of secondary education completion (if you have not completed high school, you may be given consideration for acceptance on a case-by-case basis).
- Proof of financial responsibility:
- Submit a signed ESL Affidavits of financial support Form.*
- Submit a financial statement from one of the following:
- Personal Funds. A translated financial statement on official bank letterhead signed by a bank official showing a current bank balance.
- Funds from relatives or another personal sponsor. A translated financial statement on official bank letterhead signed by a bank official showing a current bank balance.
- Government or private sponsor. A translated signed copy of your award from the sponsoring agency.
When your application is complete, make sure to submit all the above materials to intadm@ysu.edu. Please title your email as "ESL Material Submission"
Please Note: Applicants can only defer admission one time within one year of initial acceptance without paying the application fee again.
Conditional Admissions: How to Apply
An applicant meeting all the requirements for admission except the specified level of English proficiency may be admitted conditionally. This admission is conditional upon successful completion of English language study in ESL program at YSU English Language Institute (ELI). Conditional admission is applicable for both undergraduate and graduate applicants. To apply, please follow the instructions below.
For Undergraduate Conditional Applicants:
1) Fill out and submit YSU ESL Application Form*. Make sure that you check the conditional admission box and indicate your intended major. If you are located in Mainland China, please download the fillable ESL Application PDF Form, complete and sign it. Then email the scanned copy of the form to intadm@ysu.edu.
2) A nonrefundable $45 (US) ELI application fee.
3) After finishing the above materials, submit the following required documents to intadm@ysu.edu by application deadline to complete your application.
- Completed and signed ESL Application Form* if you are located in Mainland China.
- International academic credentials, including diploma/certificate/degree, and transcripts/mark sheet.
- For conditional undergraduate freshman applicants, submit your transcripts from all high schools you have attended, and high school diploma if you have graduated from high school;
- For conditional undergraduate transfer applicants, submit
- transcripts from all colleges you have attended;
- High school Transcripts only if you have completed less than 24 semester hours of college-level coursework;
- High school diploma only if you have completed less than 24 semester hours of college-level coursework
- For conditional graduate applicants, submit transcripts from all colleges you have attended;
- Photocopy of passport page showing Photo, Name, Date of Birth, citizenship, etc.
- Affidavit of Financial Support Form (download from Financial Requirement Page)
- Supporting Financial documents, e.g. bank statement.
- Proof of English Proficiency (Optional).
For Graduate Conditional Applicants:
1) Fill out and submit YSU ESL Application Form*. Make sure that you check the conditional admission box and indicate your intended major. If you are located in Mainland China, please download the fillable ESL Application PDF Form, complete and sign it. Then email the scanned copy of the form to intadm@ysu.edu. Please note that to apply for conditional graduate admission, you are not required to pay the $45 ELI Application Fee.
2) Follow How to Apply for Graduate Admissions page and complete all required materials
3) Pay the $120 (US) Graduate application fee.
Please note: Summer semester is not available to new international applicants.
