The faces of CCP in honors
CCP in Honors students CCP in Honors students go on to be leaders after graduating high school and joining the Sokolov Honors College. Meet Jackie Palusak and DiDi Tensley, two former CCP in Honors students who are well on their way to fulfilling honors requirements and making at impact at YSU.
Jackie Palusak
While a CCP in Honors student, Jackie Palusak was called to get involved in the community. Despite the COVID challenges at the time, she wanted to find a way to brighten the spirits of patients at Akron Children’s Hospital. While still in high school, she organized a Halloween candy drive which was wildly successful. Honors students donated 100 pounds of candy, and Jackie made treat bags and delivered all to kids at ACH. She continues to organize the drive annually now at YSU.
She also took two classes as honors while in high school, earning six hours of honors credits towards the 24 required for graduation. Jackie is a student in our YSU-BaccMed program planning a career in dentistry.
DiDi Tensley
DiDi Tensley was eager to earn honors credits. She matriculated to YSU full time with 20 hours of honors credits earned while in high school. She immediately got involved in research, participating in a Mathematics REU (research experience for undergraduates) with Dr. Alicia Prieto the summer before her freshman year.
DiDi has gone on to become an undergraduate teaching assistant in the honors college where she mentors freshmen and helps to lead Intro to Honors courses. DiDi is also a student in the YSU-BaccMed program and plans a career in medicine.
