YSU Teacher Bootcamp Program

Program Overview

YSU Workforce Education will be offering three bootcamp options for the summer. These bootcamps not only allow educators the opportunity to learn through real world curriculum, but they also provide an opportunity to integrate real-world business skills from area employers into their classroom. Site visits and further interaction with business leaders will enhance educator curriculum and will prepare teachers to expose students to different career paths, new technologies, and hands-on activities. To showcase their newfound knowledge and skills, all teachers will be required to create a unit, lesson(s), or presentation that will be implemented in their classrooms in alignment with their grade level and subject matter. On the final day of the boot camp, each teacher will present an overview of their work to fellow educators.

Through existing partnerships, the educators who enroll in the Advanced Manufacturing Bootcamp will be invited to visit worksite locations of one or more of our partner manufacturers. For educators who enroll in either of the IT-focused Bootcamps, they will have the opportunity to learn first-hand from relevant businesses in the region through the following activities:

• The educator will job-shadow a business for a total of 16 hours under the direction of assigned mentor.
• Develop a partnership between educators and business to assist students in academics, employment, and future careers.
• The educator and business mentor will present a new lesson plan, with a correlating hands-on activity. Presentation must include photos from job shadow experience, along with input from business mentor.

YSU Workforce will provide a certificate of completion with YSU and participating industry partner logos, name of the course, and contact hours. The teacher will go through the standard process of delivering the certificate of completion to their LPDC committee, which will be the committee in charge of converting the contact hours to CEUs. The two IT focused Bootcamps will offer 60 hours each and the Advanced Manufacturing Bootcamp will offer 87 hours.

  • Cost of tuition for bootcamp will be covered by funds received by Ohio's Teachers Bootcamp Program grant.

  • Additional cost for industry recognized credentials or certification

  • Graduate credit is not being issued as part of this bootcamp program.
