QUARTER TO SEMESTER HOUR CONVERSION

Beginning Fall 2000 YSU converted from a quarter to semester calendar (see Calendar above). To convert quarter hours to semester hours, divide quarter hours by 1.5 (i.e. for a 4 QH course: 4 QH ÷ 1.5 = 2.67 SH)

TRANSCRIPT VALIDATION

An official transcript is printed on security paper, bears the facsimile signature of the University Registrar, the Youngstown State University Seal and is dated. If photocopied, the word void will appear in the background.

Official electronic transcripts are produced as digitally signed PDFs and should be retrieved directly from the National Student Clearinghouse portal by the intended recipient. The digital signature is displayed as a banner that runs across the top of the PDF document. The banner should display an image of a blue ribbon and the word “Certified”. If the transcript does not display all three of these digital signature elements the document should not be regarded as official.

Youngstown State University may allow requester provided forms and documents to be included with the delivery of official transcripts. Unless specifically indicated by the Registrar’s signature, YSU does NOT certify the accuracy of the information provided in, nor the validity or authenticity of, such accompanying documents.

ACADEMIC STANDING – UNDERGRADUATE

There are four categories of academic standing: Good, Warning, Probation and Suspension. Good standing for undergraduate students is an overall GPA of 2.00.

Students on warning and who fail to bring up their overall GPA by the following term will be placed on probation. Students on probation and who fail to bring up their overall GPA will be placed on suspension. However, a student during a probationary term who averages a 2.00 for that term will continue on probation even though the student’s cumulative average does not reach the minimum.

ACADEMIC STANDING - GRADUATE/DOCTORAL

Good academic standing for graduate students is an overall GPA of at least 3.00 for all graduate/doctoral credit courses taken at YSU.

Regularly admitted students who are “not in good standing” will be academically suspended if their term GPA is below 3.00 for more than one semester. A graduate program may utilize additional academic standards to determine satisfactory academic progress and/or standards for academic suspension.

ACADEMIC FORGIVENESS

Upon the completion of specific requirements, YSU grants academic forgiveness to Youngstown State University students with failing grades. Courses approved for forgiveness appear on transcript with a grade notation of SA, SB, SC, SCR, SD, SF and SNC and are excluded from the GPA calculation.

GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA)

To calculate the grade point average, the total number of quality points earned (Points in Transcript Totals or QPts in each term) is divided by the total GPA hours
