The Excellence Training Center
The Excellence Training Center (ETC) is located in a newly constructed 54,000 square foot facility located on the Youngstown State campus and is set to open in April 2021. It will house many of the University's manufacturing assets, making them available to support the Workforce development, Education, Research and Commercial project needs of the region (WERC). In partnership with YSU’s STEM college, courses and programs resulting in industry recognized credentials, specifically Industry 4.0 technologies, will be offered.
The center represents a combined state, federal, and YSU capital infrastructure investment of more than $12-million. It is owned and managed by YSU, but supports the interests of an inclusive regional partnership known as the Mahoning Valley Innovation and Commercialization Consortium which comprises Youngstown State, Eastern Gateway Community College, Choffin Career Technical Center (CTC), Trumbull CTC, Columbiana Count CTC, Mahoning County CTC as well as America Makes and the Youngstown Business Incubator. While industry demands a workforce that has real-world experience, the ETC will provide access to equipment that cannot normally be acquired, used, and maintained by any one educational institution. On behalf of the consortium, the ETC’s professional staff will manage more than $10-million of advanced manufacturing equipment including but not limited to, additive manufacturing, machining, automation and robotics.
