Spring Commencement

INFORMATION FOR GRADUATES

at sTAMBAUGH STADIUM

 

Grad Central and Cap & Gown Distribution will be held on Wednesday, April 29th from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m in the YSU Barnes & Noble Bookstore.  Caps & gowns will also be available on Thursday,  April 30th from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Caps & gowns must be picked up during the specified dates and times. If the scheduled times conflict with your class/test/work schedule, a friend or family member may pick up your cap and gown during the specified dates/times. In no case should you plan to obtain your cap and gown on days other than those listed. Please check for proper fit. Exchanges may be made only on the dates and times listed above.

Please Note: Caps and gowns that have not been picked up are returned to the manufacturer after Commencement. If you delay your graduation, you will need to reorder your cap and gown.

SPECIAL NOTE:  The ceremony will take place rain or shine. Please be prepared and dress accordingly. In case of extreme weather, the ceremony will be canceled. All graduates will be emailed and a message will be displayed on the YSU home page.

ATTIRE: Dark clothing and dark shoes should be worn under the robes. Please do not bring book bags, purses, or other items you will need to carry.

TICKETS: There are no tickets necessary for this ceremony.

PARKING: Free parking is available for you and your guests in University lots and parking decks. (Campus Map)

ARRIVAL AT STAMBAUGH STADIUM: Plan to arrive at Stambaugh Stadium by 8:30 a.m. to prepare. 

ROBING: Please refer to the instruction sheet received via e-mail which identifies robing areas. Immediately upon arriving, go to the robing area designated for the degree you will receive and put on your cap and gown. If you are listed on the University Honors page in the program, follow the instructions for honor graduates.

GRADUATION HONORS: Names of tentative honor graduates will be announced in the printed program. Transfer students, please remember: Baccalaureate degree candidates with less than 60 s.h. at YSU and associate degree candidates with less than 40 s.h. at YSU are ineligible for graduation honors. Your honor designation should appear on the reader card you receive as you line up. Honor cords are distributed with caps and gowns. Please note: Master and Doctoral candidates do not receive honors.

LINEUP FOR PROCESSION: Form lines according to instructions given to you. Faculty marshals will be available to assist.

PROCESSION: The ceremony procession will begin at 10 a.m. sharp. If you arrive late, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to participate in the procession.

DIPLOMAS: Diplomas will not be available at Commencement and will be mailed.

ATTENDANCE: All graduating students are requested to be present at Commencement.

NOTICE: In keeping with the dignity of the occasion and respect for other graduates, alcoholic beverages will not be permitted in Stambaugh Stadium nor will displays of inappropriate behavior be tolerated. 

SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS: Youngstown State University is committed to accommodating people with special needs. Please let your guests know that there will be seating in Stambaugh Stadium that will be utilized for handicapped and accessible seating.  These seats are available on a first come first served basis. In order to accommodate as many people as possible, if your guests require seating in those areas, please ask them to limit the number of people sitting with them.
