Alcohol Service

Having an event on campus and want to serve alcohol? Here are the step-by-step procedures:

If your event is being held in one of the venues inside the yellow outline:

  • You will be covered under the campus liquor permit.
  • Please complete the campus permit.
  • The campus caterer will serve the beer and wine at your event.
  • If you will be charging for the beer and wine, the campus caterer will collect the money.
  • Police officers need to be present at any event on campus serving alcohol. Police will determine the number of officers needed.

If your event is being held inside the orange outline (also including the DeBartolo Stadium club in Stambaugh Stadium). You will not be covered under the campus liquor permit. Under this circumstance, you will need to follow different guidelines based on the type of event:

  • If your event is private with no admittance or membership fees, you will only need to complete the campus permit:
    • You or your caterer can bring in the beer and wine. Beer and wine must be removed after the event.
    • You or your caterer can provide qualified bartenders.
    • Police officers need to be present at any event on campus serving alcohol. Police will determine the number of officers needed.
  • If your event is private and there is an admittance and/or membership fee, you will need to complete and submit a state permit with required fee at least 6 weeks prior to your event.
    • The campus caterer will supply bartenders or you or your caterer can provide qualified bartenders.
    • Beer and wine must be ordered in advance if using the University Caterer. Based on your number of guests, the caterer will determine the appropriate amount needed.
    • Beer and wine will be picked up, delivered and removed from your event by the university if using the University Caterer. 
    • You will be charged for all beer and wine consumed at your event. For campus groups holding the event, you will be issued a charge back if using the University Caterer. 
    • If you are charging for the beer and wine at your event, a ticket system must be utilized for sales. You are responsible for bringing and selling the drink tickets.
  • If your event is open whether or not there is an admittance and/or membership fee, you will need to complete and submit a state permit with required fee at least 6 weeks prior to your event.
    • The campus caterer will supply bartenders or you or your caterer can provide qualified bartenders.
    • Beer and wine must be ordered in advance through the university caterer. Based on your number of guests, the caterer will determine the appropriate amount needed.
    • Beer and wine will be picked up, delivered and removed from your event by the university.
    • You will be charged for all beer and wine consumed at your event. For campus groups holding the event, you will be issued a charge back.
    • If you are charging for the beer and wine at your event, a ticket system must be utilized for sales. You are responsible for bringing and selling the drink tickets.

If your event is being held in one of the venues inside the pink outlines (excluding the DeBartolo Stadium Club)

  • You will be covered under the athletic liquor permit.
  • Please complete the campus permit
  • Police officers need to be present at any event on campus serving alcohol. Police will determine the number of officers needed.
