Dr. Kent-Strollo received her Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership with a focus in Student Personnel Services from the University of the Cumberlands, a Master of Science degree in Nursing/Women's Health Nurse Practitioner Program from Kent State University, and Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Youngstown State University. A board-certified Nurse Practitioner and former member of the faculty in YSU's Department of Nursing, she also developed and directed YSU's Office of Student Outreach & Support, and served in several capacities within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. In her current role as Dean of Students and Ombudsperson, Dr. Kent-Strollo provides oversight to the YSU CARE Team, Student Counseling Services, Community Standards & Student Conduct, and Case Management. Additionally, she serves as the primary liaison to critical campus partners, including Compass Family and Community Services (Rape Crisis and Sojourner House). A lifelong Penguin, Dr. Kent-Strollo is passionate about helping students, while fostering a culture of respect across our campus community.


 

 

 

 

 

Emily Loudon, M.Ed,

Emily serves as the Assistant Dean of Students at YSU. In her role she advocates for YSU students and is responsible for student disciplinary issues. She is here to support all students who come through the office and engage with the many opportunities, programs and services offered. She views her role here at YSU to assist all students who come through with respect and consideration with an efficient process. She is also here to offer advice on how to handle a situation or help get you connected with other available campus resources. Emily has over 10 years in higher education with progressive responsibilities ranging from Student Activities, Student Organizations, Intramurals, Housing, Conduct and Title IX. Emily is a northeast Ohio native having her bachelor’s from University of Mount Union and a master’s degree in higher education administration from University of Akron. Currently a PH.D candidate in Organizational Leadership through Eastern University (PA) her research is focused on generations and how organizations can serve different generations work preferences in a post-Covid workplace.

Allie Adler, M.S.Ed.

Allie is a two-time alumna of Youngstown State University, earning a Master of Science in Education degree in Counseling, with a focus in Student Affairs, in 2022, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2020. Allie previously worked as a Coordinator for Student Programs at the University of Akron, creating engaging and educational events for students. Allie is passionate about mental health wellness and helping students become advocates for themselves and others. She hopes to provide a welcoming environment and a listening ear for all students. In her free time, she loves spending time with her partner and pets, cheering on the Cleveland Browns, Guardians, Cavs and the Pittsburgh Penguins, and exploring new things to do.

Destiny Miller, MPA
Dean of Students Case Manager

Destiny is God fearing, with a passion for accountability and serving people. She is a mother of three, two sons and a daughter. She enjoys music, dancing and cooking. Destiny is an alumna of Youngstown State University, earning a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice, with a focus in Corrections. She served as a group leader with the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center from 2005-2010. From 2014 thru 2022, Destiny worked for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections where she served as an officer and Lieutenant. In 2018 she earned a Certified Public Manager certificate, before earning a Master of Public Administration degree in Urban Planning from Cleveland State University in 2020.

Lauren Missik, M.Ed.

Lauren Missik comes to Youngstown State University from Residence Life at The College of Wooster where she served for 6 years as an Assistant Director. Prior to Wooster, Lauren worked at The University of Toledo as a Hall Director. Lauren received a Master’s degree from The University of Akron in Higher Education Administration and Student Personnel, where she also received Bachelor’s degrees in both Business & Organizational Communication and Interpersonal and Public Communication. As a hobby, Lauren and her partner rescue ferrets and enjoy spending time with their animals, playing board games, and watching movies.

Dr. Francine Packard, Ph.D., LPCC-S, LICD-CS, CAGCS, RMT, RYT200

Dr. Packard holds a Ph.D. in Psychology, a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, and a bachelor's degree in business administration. For over 23 years she has used intuitive-based practices and conducted research focused on the importance of social support for emerging adults.

Dr. Packard is an EMDR Consultant, and an Independent Heartmath® Certified Trainer. She is also certified as an Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist, Koru® Mindfulness Instructor, Expressive Arts Therapist, and a Registered Yoga Teacher RYT-200.

In addition to her clinical and research background, Dr. Packad was appointed to the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Regulatory Board from 2007-2010. In this capacity, she served as the Chairperson of the Continuing Education Steering Committee, along with creating and overseeing the out-of-state endorsement process.

Anne received a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling and Student Affairs in 1996 and a Master's degree in School Counseling in 2003, both from Youngstown State University. Anne is a member of the Association of College Clinical Directors and the American Counseling Association. She is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for our students. In the greater community, Anne currently serves as Chair of the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board, of which she has been a board member since 2006. She has also served on both the Boys & Girls Club Advisory Board (2004-2006) and the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board (2004-2008).

Katie received her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Kent State University in 2016 and has been practicing as a Licensed Counselor since. She previously worked in an adolescent residential facility and as a school-based therapist at a K-12 school district. Her professional interests include anxiety disorders, providing therapeutic/psychoeducational groups, managing stress, working with diverse populations, and adjustment of college students. Her overall goal is to be a supportive, listening ear to students, helping to motivate them, and increase their overall well-being. She hopes to create a safe place where students feel comfortable when they need it.

Brittney Koren, MA, LPC

Brittney received her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling from Walsh University in 2022, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with minors in Psychology and Philosophy from Walsh in 2015. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor who practices from a person-centered and holistic approach, and views counseling as a collaborative journey. Brittney has worked with individuals across various cultural backgrounds and enjoys facilitating an environment of learning and growth for both the student and the counselor. Brittney is passionate about working with emerging adults, and creating a safe, caring, non-judgemental environment for students to share their stories, discover their inner strengths, and learn coping skills to enrich their lives. She believes that each person deserves to find peace, passion, and purpose in life.

Michael Bowman, B.A.

Michael is originally from Des Moines, IA. He moved to Youngstown when he received an honorable discharge from active duty in the United States Air Force and he joined the USAF active reserves. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from YSU in 1991, but has worked at the University as a student, faculty, or staff member since 1981, including several positions within Campus Recreation and Kilcawley Center. In his current role, he provides confidential administrative support to Student Counseling Services as the initial point of contact to students and guests. He assists in the screening process by determining visitor needs, answering questions and addressing immediate issues of concern, scheduling appointments with counselors, managing phone inquiries, and taking detailed messages.

Lorraine is an administrative professional with over fifteen years of experience. Her background includes working in the fields of non-profit, for-profit, and higher education, and has focused on the areas of Office Management, Marketing, and Human Resources. Lorraine has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Life Science from Otterbein University and earned her SHRM-CP certification in 2016.
