Colloquium on Aging features exhibit for people with dementia
The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, in collaboration with Youngstown State University’s Gerontology Department and College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, presents a Colloquium on Aging 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 at the museum on Wood Street in Youngstown.
The colloquium, which is free and open to the public, includes "Sparking Memories," a program created by Marcelle Wilson, part-time faculty, History, and museum site manager, and Amy Plant, part-time faculty, Gerontology. It consists of specialized tours designed for people living with dementia and their caregivers. The tours allow people to encounter various exhibits, intended to trigger memories and enable them to socialize and provide a positive experience.
Attendees will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the tours, as well as two newly planned outreach programs, the Memory Café and Museum in a Suitcase, for facilities in the community. New tools created by Jay Wargacki, manager of YSU’s Center for Innovation in Additive Manufacturing and Launch Lab assistants, will be on display.
Limited parking is available at the museum. Additional visitors may park on the street or in metered YSU lots.
YHCIL is an Ohio History Connection site located at 151 W. Wood Street in Youngstown, Ohio, and is managed by the YSU History Department. The museum is open: Wednesdays 10-4; Thursdays 10-7; Fridays 10-4; and Saturdays 12-4. For more information or to schedule a tour, call 330-941-1314.
