College is a time to explore who you are, what matters to you, and what value you want to bring to the world! And joining a sorority is about finding your people – the women who will cheer you on and challenge you along the way. Your future sisters will be there to support you as you learn all that you’re capable of, and through the sorority experience you’ll tap into your potential through exploring leadership, giving back to the community, and serving others.

Sorority is ... coming together to make a difference! Sororities bring incredible women together and provide outlets and support for us to do real good in our community. We believe there is no group at Youngstown State University that has the power to impact our world like sororities!

Sorority is ... fun! It’s about always having those go-to girls you can sing at the top of your lungs with, late-night study buddies, that sister who is there when you need ice cream (or a hug), and a mentor who inspires you to be the best version of you.

Sorority is ... a deep network and well of opportunities that will help you succeed – beyond what you can imagine today. Your sorority helps you find your niche at Youngstown State University through opportunities to connect and lead, and the benefits of the sorority experience are real. Sorority women are three times as likely to have an internship in school and twice as likely to have a job when they graduate.

Sorority is ... a community of support. You’ve heard about our “sisterhood.” Sororities provide a family and a home away from home. Your sisters will be there for you – for celebrating your wins, for tough conversations, and for when you need a shoulder to lean on. Sisterhood is deeper than friendship and lasts far beyond the few years we’re in college.

National Panhellenic Council (NPC) Recruitment Process & Attendance Policy

Our social sororities conduct a formal recruitment annually in September. Registration is required along with a $15 fee. Panhellenic recruitment is a mutual selection process. During the Information Sessions interested students will have a chance to get some information about sororities to determine if they are interested in joining. 

Potential New Members MUST meet each of our chapters during any of these events to be eligible for Preference. They can choose to attend one Open house session, or two, or all of them. Additionally, each chapter has a night where they can spend more quality time meeting more of their members. These sessions are not required, but beneficial for helping you get to know all of your options.

Attendance at Preference Round is required to be placed with a chapter during primary recruitment. During Preference, potential new members attend up to two of the chapters’ parties. If you choose not to attend a chapter on your event schedule on Preference Day you will be removed from the recruitment process immediately.

PNMs must submit academic or athletic conflicts to your recruitment counselor no later than September 26 at 5:00 PM.

Recruitment Behavior

1. Treat each sorority and member with equal respect throughout the process. Silence your phone and keep it in your pocket or small purse during events, don’t speak poorly about any chapters, etc.
2. Do not discuss stereotypes, rumors, hazing, reputations, illegal behavior, etc. with sorority members or fellow PNMs.
3. You may not accept any gifts before or during the recruitment process.
4. You may not contact sorority members at any time before or during the recruitment process. If you see sorority members during recruitment week in class or on campus, it’s okay to say hi and smile, but don’t discuss recruitment. Contacting sorority members includes text, email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat etc. If you have any questions regarding sorority recruitment, please contact your Recruitment Counselor.
5. Following recruitment events or rounds, you may not discuss personal opinions with other PNMs. Each PNM is entitled to her own opinion and a chapter you did not connect with may be another PNM’s first choice. Respect other PNMs and the chapters, and do not discuss your opinions with anyone aside from your Recruitment Counselor.

Recruitment Priority Rankings

After the final Open House Round that is attended, potential new members will meet with their Recruitment Counselor to submit their priority rankings. Selections are their preferences for which chapters you would most like to return to during the following round.

1. You will meet privately with your Recruitment Counselor or a member of the Recruitment Team away from your PNM group and discuss which chapters you would most like to go back to.
2. Once you have decided, you will make your selections with your Recruitment Counselor or member of the Recruitment Team.
3. Then, if you have a full or almost full schedule, write the chapter or chapters you would least like to return to under “Interest/Rank”. This section is in order, with the higher number meaning the chapter you would least like to return to.

Please remember that selecting certain chapters does not guarantee that you will be invited back and that most PNMs do not have full schedules throughout the recruitment process. Do not discuss your selections with anyone aside from your Recruitment Counselor.
