Youngstown State University’s Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series and the Dana School of Music present Mozart’s opera “Così fan tutte” Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 22, 23 and 24 in Bliss Hall’s Ford Theater on campus.
Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday matinee performance is at 2 p.m.
Adult tickets are $16. Special rate tickets are $8 for non-YSU students, YSU faculty and staff with valid ID, senior citizens, Penguin Club members and groups of eight or more. YSU student tickets are free with valid ID. Patrons are advised to purchase tickets early by calling the University Theater Box Office at 330-941-3105 or visiting www.ysu.tix.com. Parking is available in the Wick Avenue deck for a nominal fee.
An opening night pre-performance lecture titled, "The Good, the Bad, and the Funny: Responding to a Multi-Faceted Mozart in Cosi fan tutte," will be presented 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 22 in Room 2222 of Bliss Hall. Lecturer is Stephanie Ruozzo, a first-year doctoral student in the musicology program at Case Western Reserve University and currently serving as research assistant at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s education department. She holds three degrees from YSU and has performed with YSU’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Clarinet Choir and Early Music Ensemble. Reservations are not necessary for the lecture.

The performance is the third opera at YSU staged under the auspices of the Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series made possible by Christine and Edward Muransky in honor of Christine’s father. The Muransky family provided a gift to support the Performing Arts Series and the YSU opera in perpetuity in October 2013. The Performing Arts Series was renamed as a result of that gift.
The opera, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, will be sung in Italian with supertitles, and in English.
YSU’s opera program director is Misook Yun; Dana orchestra director is Stephen L. Gage; director of the Dana Chorale is Hae-Jong Lee; stage director/scenic designer is David Vosburgh; lighting designer is Kevin Wolfgang; costumer is Barbara Luce; production manager is Todd Dicken; stage manager is Devin Whitehouse; musical preparation is by Jan Crews; and master carpenter is Frank Bongen.
The show is double cast and includes, on April 22 and 24, Dean La Salandra (Austintown, Ohio); Anthony Humphrey (New Castle, Pa.); Sierra McCorvey (Warren, Ohio); Victor S. Cardamone (Apollo, Pa.), Kathryn Cramer (Burgettstown, Pa.); and Erika Walker, (Canfield, Ohio). The April 23 cast includes: Patrick M. Niess (Warren, Ohio); Kathleen Bachtel (Massillon, Ohio); Anna Murcko (Napoleon, Ohio); Katy Howells (Baden, Pa.); Anthony Humphrey (New Castle, Pa.) David Mouse (East Liverpool, Ohio).
