Dana Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble perform Feb. 22

The Youngstown State University Dana School of Music’s Concert Band and Percussion Ensemble perform a concert 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, in Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Avenue, Youngstown. The Concert Band will perform Ron Nelson’s Courtly Airs and Dances, Derek Bourgeois’ Serenade, Op. 22, David Maslanka’s Mother Earth (A Fanfare) and Gustav Holst Second Suite in F for Military Band Op. 28, No. 2. The Percussion Ensemble will round out the evening to include music for both traditional and mixed instrumentation. Robert Oetomo's arrangement of the Harold Arlen classic, Somewhere Over the Rainbow is a fresh take on the classic song featuring YSU student Nathan Negro on marimba; Slap Shift by J.B. Smith features a sextet playing intricate Afro-Cuban rhythms on congas; and Ed Davis' arrangement Samba! is a medley of traditional Brazilian samba rhythms.
