Information for Transfer Students

The college transfer process has become a valuable part of many students' higher education experience. We understand that your earned credits are important to you.

Youngstown State University reviews credits from colleges and universities that are regionally and non-regionally accredited.

How Do I Know if All My Credits Will Transfer?

Youngstown State University offers a tool called Transferology that allows a transfer student to see how credits may transfer.

Transferring between institutions can provide some challenges, especially gaining credit for specific classes that might not be taught at both institutions.  Oftentimes, a syllabus or course catalog might need to be provided so that institutions can determine if credit can be awarded.

Youngstown State University will review and evaluate all credits.  All credits, except developmental courses, will transfer, but not all will apply to major requirements.

Below are resources that can help you plan courses you can take before transferring to YSU.

Transferology

Transferology is a nationwide network designed to help students explore their college transfer options. Our goal is to save students time and money by providing a quick, intuitive way of getting their college transfer credit questions answered.

Use the Will My Courses Transfer? path to determine if courses, standardized exams, and military credits will transfer to or earn credit at other schools.

  • Find the school(s) you have attended and add your courses.
  • If you have taken standardized exams or have military credits, you can add those as well.
  • Select Search for Matches to view your search results.
  • Learn more about colleges by viewing their School Profiles.
  • Select Request Information to contact a school representative. You can also reach out through the Help & Feedback button (select Contact a School).

*Please note if your school is not listed this does not mean your credits are non-transferable. Contact YSU Office of Admissions at (330) 941-2000 and ask to speak to a representative.
