YSU Honors College Open House Oct. 8

Prospective Penguins will have a chance to learn about the Youngstown State University Honors College without leaving the comfort of their homes during a virtual open house Thursday, Oct. 8 from 3 to 6 p.m.

Even though the annual open house will be conducted through Webex this year, the event will still immerse interested high school students in the Honors College experience.

“Technology really has helped us remain connected these last several months. Future members of the Honors College will receive the same warm welcome we would offer them in person,” said Amy Cossentino, dean of the Honors College.

Families will have a chance to learn about the honors student experience, explore potential majors, and interact with current honors students, staff and faculty. A live virtual tour of Cafaro House, the honors residence hall, will also be offered. Interested honors-eligible high school students should register online by Oct. 5. To be eligible for membership in the Honors College, high school seniors must have an overall GPA of 3.5 and a minimum ACT score of 26 or SAT score of at least 1240.

The YSU Honors College provides academically talented students with added depth to their YSU experience through advanced coursework, service to the Youngstown community and opportunities for engagement and leadership on campus.

For freshman Korey Kihm of Girard, attending last year’s open house was the deciding factor that led to him choose YSU.

“Talking with upperclass student Lauren Rager about her incredible opportunities and experiences in honors sealed the deal for me, and I’m so happy to be here,” said Kihm, who is majoring in Biochemistry. For more information, visit www.ysu.edu/honors.
