Williamson College of Business Administration hosts Continuing Professional Education Accounting Seminars

The WCBA and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants will host two fall accounting seminars, approved by the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA), for eight hours of CPE in Ohio and Pennsylvania, as a continued initiative to bring high quality professional development to the region.

YSU Annual Tax Update
The first seminar covers all legislative, judicial, and IRS developments of the past year with a focus on implementation and compliance taking place on Friday, Nov. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with registration from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. This session will only be held in-person in Williamson Hall at 221 North Hazel Street in Youngstown, Ohio, with no online connection. Parking will be available in the M30 deck on Wick Avenue.

During this course, participants will learn how to effectively and confidently complete tax planning and compliance engagements, cover current developments affecting individuals (including income, deductions and losses, tax calculations, individual credits, and filing matters), business entities (S Corporations and their shareholders, C Corporations, partnerships), estates and trusts, retirement plans, and more.

Leading the Annual Tax Update seminar will be William Taylor, president of Benefit Solutions, Ltd., a benefit consulting firm, and CPA in private practice. Since retiring as Community Bank President of Renasant Bank in Water Valley, Mississippi, he has served as an adjunct assistant professor in the MBA program at the University of Mississippi. Taylor has worked in the employee benefit and investment fields for over 20 years, beginning his career as the employee benefits coordinator in the Jackson, Mississippi office of KPMG Peat Marwick and managing his own firm since 1999.

A nationally known consultant and speaker, Taylor has conducted seminars for the AICPA, the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries, more than 40 state CPA and Bar associations and other organizations. Taylor is the author of Taxation of Employee Benefits, Vols. I and II, and his articles have appeared in numerous publications. Taylor has been the recipient of the Association’s Outstanding Facilitator Award on multiple occasions.

YSU Accounting & Auditing Update
The second seminar offered will be a comprehensive course covering relevant pronouncements, exposure drafts, and other guidance recently issued in the accounting, auditing, review, compilation, and preparation engagement arenas taking place on Wednesday, Dec. 6, online only, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. with registration 8 - 8:30 a.m. Participants will look closely at the complexities while learning to identify and apply recently issued FASB, PCAOB, ARSC, and ASB standards and guidance as a means to remain current on topics impacting the professions within these realms.

Anthony A. Cuozzo, Jr., CPA, CGFM, will lead the Accounting & Auditing Update as a Senior Advisor to Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. (CBM). He has over 40 years of experience serving a variety of clients, including specialties in not-for-profit organizations and local governments. Cuozzo has served as principal in charge of both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) organizations.

In addition, Cuozzo is a nationally recognized discussion leader for various accounting and auditing courses for CPA firms and state CPA organizations. These teaching assignments keep him abreast of new developments in the accounting profession as well as in business. Cuozzo conducts peer reviews of CPA firms across the country and is currently the chair of the Maryland Association of CPAs Peer Review Committee.

His broad business experience and training has enabled him to be recognized as a registered investment advisor by the Financial Industry Regulatory Association.
