Expert on Islam and gender presents Shipka lecture March 13

Aysha Hidayatullah, associate professor of Islamic Studies at the University of San Francisco, lectures on “Muslim Women and Feminisms: Intersections, Movements and Dynamic Change” 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the Chestnut Room in Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University.

The presentation, free and open to the public, is part of the Dr. Thomas and Albert Shipka Speaker Series at YSU.

A specialist in the study of Islam and gender, Hidayatullah is the author of “Feminist Edges of the Qur’an, which examines and critically responds to the emerging body of Muslim feminist scholarships on the Qur’an in the United States. She is also co-founder and current co-chair of the Islam, Gender, Women program unit of the American Academy of Religion.
