GRADUATE ASSISTANT INTERN

SUPERVISOR: MICHAEL GRECO, Associate Director

 

The Graduate Assistant Intern (GAI) for Tutoring Services, a major service of the Resch Academic Success Center is responsible for assisting with the daily operation of our tutoring program. Working under the supervision of the Center's staff, a GAI will assist with the supervision of staff and provide administrative support to promote the academic success of YSU students. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, proficiency in MS Office including Excel, and the ability to be flexible and work collaboratively within a team.

 

Supervision of Peer tutor staff

  • Review session documentation by tutors and engage in follow-up discussions to address paperwork completion and identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct assessments of tutoring sessions through direct observations. Schedule meetings with tutors to debrief on observation ratings and deliver constructive feedback.
  • Facilitate end-of-semester evaluations for peer tutor staff, summarizing observations, highlighting strengths, and identifying areas for growth.
  • Collaborate in the planning and implementation of tutor training and staff meetings, taking an active role in leading discussions on important topics as necessary. 
  • Utilize texting platform and university email to communicate important information pertaining to tutoring sessions and other relevant matters. 

Administrative Support

  • Create scheduling documents including tutors' work hours, daily and weekly appointments, and tutoring session locations.
  • Learn TutorTrac scheduling software to identify courses supported and assist students with scheduling tutoring.
  • Instruct students how to sign-in for their sessions at the kiosks and provide assistance with helping to locate their tutor.
  • Maintain up to data resources for the peer tutor staff, including their textbooks, materials, supplies, etc., for the current term.
  • Manage the department Blackboard site and share information pertaining to staff meetings and training activities.
  • Utilize assessment measures to collect and analyze data and generate reports on the outcomes.
  • Provide students with information on other campus resources, including tutoring offered by other departments and services affiliated with the University.
  • Submit bi-monthly staff reports to the supervisor, highlighting progress, challenges, and successes. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned (presentations, campus events, special projects)

20 hours per week required beginning August 19th, 2024 through May 3, 2025

Salary: $7500. Tuition remission included.
