Remuneration: Tuitions remission and a $7,500 stipend during the academic year (paid in bi-weekly increments). Graduate Assistants also receive fringe benefits including tuition for up to 18 semester hours in the fall and spring semesters. The non-resident surcharge and parking permit fee are also remitted.
Five additional hours of employment are also available weekly at the discretion of the supervisor. The rate of pay for this is $11.25 per hour.
Position Start/End Dates: One week prior to the term beginning for both fall and spring semesters. This posting is currently a one academic year (fall and spring) appointment only, with possible extension.
Is summer student employment available? Yes, Graduate assistant can also receive tuition remission for up to 12 semester hours in the summer term, but only if they held an appointment in the proceeding fall or spring term and performed their duties satisfactorily.
Hours requirement: Qualified applicants must be able to work 20 hours, primarily during the hours of 8am-5pm, and be available occasional evenings and/or weekends during Kilcawley Center’s events.
Job Description:
The Graduate Assistant for Retail and Facility Operations is responsible for assisting in the management of setup crew, building managers, and student employees in all retail locations. Assisting in daily setup, and A/V activities and maintenance in Kilcawley Center. The Graduate Assistant for Retail and Facility Operations will also assist in the oversight of student schedules and troubleshooting of problems in all retail locations in Kilcawley Center (this includes The Cove, Guest Services, and Pete’s Treats).
Primary job responsibilities:
Assist in managing assigned student staff and retail locations | 40%
- Assist in development and management of student schedules
- Manage student call-offs and schedule changes
- Train Student Directors on how to set up and tear down equipment
- Assist in hiring building managers, setup crew, and retail operations student staff
- Assist in staff training and development
Assist in daily room and A/V setup and maintenance | 40%
- Maintain equipment inventory and organize storage areas on a semester basis
- Set up and maintain event tech equipment (microphone, speakers, mixers, lighting, etc.)
- Ensure that all room set requirements are met and provide support for scheduled events
- Assist in repair or scheduling repair and maintenance of equipment
- Move equipment to indoor and outdoor locations
- Ensure that all equipment is accounted for, and all technology is up to date
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for customers and staff (secure cables, electrical equipment, ADA compliance)
- May be required to drive university vehicles (van, golf cart, etc.) to conduct university business on behalf of Kilcawley Center Student Union
