Position Title: Graduate Assistant, Club Sports and Travel
Position Description:
The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Club Sports and Travel supports the planning, management, and evaluation of Club Sports programs, ensuring compliance with university policies, facilitating travel arrangements, and fostering leadership among student participants. This role also involves marketing, event management, and operational support to enhance the program's impact.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the development, administration, and evaluation of Club Sports programs.
- Ensure compliance with university policies, including completion of CPR, BBP, concussion, and Anti-Hazing training.
- Update the Club Sports Staff/Resource Manual, website, and communication materials.
- Supervise Club Sports staff, Executive Board members, Council leaders, and scholarship recipients.
- Lead bi-weekly Executive Board and monthly Council meetings, providing guidance on eligibility, service, and compliance requirements.
- Onboard new staff, officers, and scholarship recipients through training and retreats.
- Manage travel logistics, ensuring compliance with policies and documentation requirements.
- Plan and execute the Club Sports Awards Banquet and assist with fundraisers, home competitions, and service events.
- Support Pete & Penny’s Summer Camps, including supervision and camper safety, as needed.
- Manage Club Sports social media accounts and weekly communications.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase participation and engagement.
- Represent Club Sports at campus and Student Experience events.
- Monitor facility schedules, address conflicts, and track SGA funding and participation requirements.
- Provide guidance on securing funding, sponsorships, and donations.
- Respond promptly to inquiries and provide ongoing support to club members and staff.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have applied for his/her academic program or be a current Youngstown State Graduate student for interview consideration; must be accepted into program before graduate assistantship offer can be made by Campus Recreation; must maintain good standing within his/her program, maintain a minimum of 9 credit hours of coursework, must be or willing to be certified in CPR/First Aid, possess prior Campus Recreation or related experience.

- Experience facilitating meetings, trainings, or team-building activities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with students, staff, and external partners.
- Experience managing challenging situations, such as behavior management or conflict resolution.
- Ability to respond effectively to emergencies or time-sensitive issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Comfortable addressing questions and concerns from the campus community.
- Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple responsibilities
- Proactive in identifying and addressing program needs or improvements.

This position is similar to the Graduate Assistant Intern position that is offered by the College of Graduate Studies. This position is scholarship based and the department agrees to follow those guidelines and conditions set forth by the College of Graduate Studies. However, these GAI’s are not given a stipend but instead paid an hourly rate and required to work up to 25 hours per week (5 additional hours if approved by the Dean of Graduate Studies), including exam week, for duties to be assigned by the department. Students will be paid $12 an hour in semi-weekly installments from the actual start date. This compensation may be subject to taxation. Students may not start working until all employment forms are on file. To remain eligible for this appointment, students must discharge their duties satisfactorily and remain in good standing. A student must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0-point scale for all graduate coursework. Students cannot hold other full-time employment but may accept occasional or temporary employment during the term of the assistantship subject to the approval of the department. International Graduate Students under this plan can only work 20 hours a week, no exceptions.
