Real Property Information System (RPIS)

In February 2009, the National Vacant Properties Campaign issued a policy assessment report titled, “Regenerating Youngstown and Mahoning County through Vacant Property Reclamation: Reforming Systems and Right-Sizing Markets,” which contained a regional assessment of vacant property policies and programs. Included in this policy report was the recommendation that a Real Property Information System (RPIS) be designed and implemented, to compile an accurate representation of property and neighborhood conditions.

The RPIS Project Map was developed at the YSU Center for Urban and Regional Studies, and contains a comprehensive collection real property data for the city of Youngstown, Ohio. The availability of this data and the subsequent development of a localized RPIS will enable local community leaders to make informed decisions and develop solutions to tackle vacancy and blight issues, and improve neighborhood conditions and quality of life in Youngstown.

The RPIS Project Map is housed at YSU's Center for Applied GIS, in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, and is managed by John D. Bralich, Director.
