YSU will not receive 2024-2025 FAFSA application results until the first half of March. The Department of Education (ED) announced further delays in distributing FAFSA results to schools to make inflationary adjustments to the formula that impact the accuracy of the Student Aid Index (SAI) used to determine financial need. YSU will send financial aid offers out mid to late March as soon as FAFSA application results are on file and processed.

Youngstown State University’s Financial Aid Night is a community service event that provides helpful information to the parents of students in grades 11 and 12 planning to attend college. In addition to a full presentation that will detail the basics about applying for financial aid, attendees can also meet our Financial Aid Counselors and receive direct assistance with the completion of the 2024-2025 FAFSA. The Fall Student Loan Repayment Information Session presented by Citizens Bank was held on Tuesday, December 5. The  PowerPoint below provides information and money saving strategies on student loan repayment with topics including repayment plans, loan forgiveness programs, and borrower rights and responsibilities. Viewing is strongly encouraged for upcoming graduates, but the information is applicable to all student borrowers at any phase of their postsecondary education.

As a result of the passage of the FUTURE and FAFSA Simplification Acts, changes are coming to the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Due to significant application changes, the 2024-2025 FAFSA release date, which is typically October 1, will be delayed to December 2023. An exact date will be communicated by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships once determined. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships has created a webpage to highlight the anticipated changes in order to help students and families better prepare.
