Dietetic Technician Program in Dietetics

2015-2020 Mission Statement

The Dietetic Technician Program at Youngstown State University strives to provide our students with a combination of didactic coursework and supervised practice experiences to elicit both knowledge comprehension and application. Following the guidelines set-forth by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), our students are prepared for a nutrition career in a variety of clinical, community or food service settings.

YSU-DT Program Goals & Objectives 2017 – 2020

Goal #1

Graduates of the YSU- DT program will have met competencies and developed skill sets to be prepared for entry-level practice in a variety of nutrition settings.

  • Objective 1: At least 80% of program students complete program/degree requirements within 3 years (150% of the program length).*
  • Objective 2: 70 percent of program graduates take the CDR credentialing exam for nutrition and dietetics technicians within 12 months of program completion. *
  • Objective 3: The program’s one-year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for nutrition and dietetics technicians is at least 70%.*
  • Objective 4: Of graduates who seek employment, 70 percent are employed in nutrition and dietetics or related fields within 12 months of graduation.*

Goal #2

Graduates of the YSU – DT program will meet employer expectations for entry-level practice as a qualified and competent nutrition professional.

  • Objective 1: 100% of graduates will be rated as ‘Satisfactory’ or ‘Outstanding’ by preceptors during summer practicum competency evaluations.*

*Data for program outcomes is available upon request. Outcomes are measured annually and utilized as a means for program improvement as needed.
