Welcome Week 2022 Out of This World


We are thrilled to welcome students back to campus for the start of a new semester.

Welcome Week begins on Sunday, August 28 with an Outdoor Movie featuring Lightyear on the lawn outside of Cafaro House. Classes begin on Monday, August 29 and festivities continue throughout the week. Favorite traditions include a Zipline on Armed Forces Blvd, Student Organization Fair, Puppy Palooza, The Block Party, Meet the Greeks, Build a Penguin, and the YSU Football Game wrapping up a busy first week on campus.

It’s time to get out of this world! We are launching Welcome Week into orbit with a movie on the lawn, voted on by you! Grab some snacks and watch a celestial inspired movie on the Cafaro Lawn and enjoy your last night before classes start. Legendary space ranger Buzz Lightyear embarks on an intergalactic adventure alongside ambitious recruits Izzy, Mo, Darby, and his robot companion, Sox. As this motley crew tackles their toughest mission yet, they must learn to work together as a team to escape the evil Zurg and his dutiful robot army that are never far behind.

Ready for takeoff? Get your week started by ziplining through the YSU sky! Who said Penguins couldn’t fly? Grab some coffee as you take on your first day of classes on campus.
In case of inclement weather, you can still get your adrenaline rush that day at the High Ropes Course in Campus Rec. We’ll bring the zipline back during Homecoming at Fall Fire Fest on Thursday, October 13th.

Students must follow @ysu_activities on Instagram to access the link to enter for a chance to be randomly selected as one of a limited number of students to build their stuffed penguin! Students will be notified on Wednesday, August 31 at 5:00 PM if they won a penguin. Those that are selected will receive a private link to sign up for a designated time on Friday, September 2 to enter the “Build-A-Penguin Factory” between 3:00-4:30 PM. This event is for current YSU students only and you must present a valid YSU student ID to receive your penguin. One penguin per student. You must be present at the event to stuff a penguin.
