Reference Form
Purpose: Since 1948 this award has been a distinguished part of Youngstown State University’s rich tradition. The YSU Pin Award recognizes up to five graduating seniors annually who have achieved academic success and demonstrated outstanding leadership, motivation, and creativity in university and community activities.
Criteria:
- Candidates must be graduating between December 2023 to December 2024.
- Candidates must have demonstrated outstanding leadership in YSU campus life through participation in a variety of campus activities and community-wide service projects.
- Candidates must have demonstrated character and integrity in their role as a YSU student leader.
- Candidates must have a minimum accumulative GPA of 3.0 and maintained good disciplinary standing for the previous two years.
- Candidates are eligible to be awarded the Pin only once.
- Candidates must provide a minimum of one, no more than three references. Select different references that can highlight several areas of your college involvement and show you have a well-rounded experience.
Selection: Up to five student graduating in the current academic year will be selected by the Student Awards Committee. Candidates will be evaluated based upon their application and references.
Application Questions:
- YSU Campus Leadership: Please include a BULLETED LIST of your organizations, campus involvement, and community service. Be sure to include all information about your YSU experience this far.
- Off-Campus Community Service: Please include a BULLETED LIST of all community service opportunities and/or leadership roles held off-campus during your college experience. Include any activities, responsibilities, employment, and time frames.
- Describe how the experience of being a student leader has enhanced your personal growth and enriched your overall college experience.
- What kind of legacy do you believe you will leave as a YSU graduate, whether it be on campus, in the community, or both?
- Anything else we should know about your college experience?
