Campus Recreation is determined to ensure the safety of our patrons and staff members!  We will continue to be dedicated to adhere to our mission of a holistic approach to wellness, and developing healthier lifestyle choices that lead to personal and professional growth. 

We will be implementing a strategic and carefully planned and phased approach, before during after we reopen. Our main goal is making sure that your facility a safe and enjoyable experience for the entire YSU Community!

SAFETY

We are working to make the Andrews Student Recreation & Wellness Center as safe and as enjoyable as possible! All precautions are in accordance with governmental orders and guidelines. We appreciate your help and understanding as we work through this time together. 

To maintain Ohio Department of Health regulations Campus Recreation has made the following measures for your safety:

  1. Equipment Issue is reducing the equipment available to allow for more cleaning 
  2. Showers are not able to be utilized at this time
  3. Personal belongings can be stored in the charging station or cubbies located throughout the facility
  4. Strength, cardio and exercise equipment has been adjusted to meet guidelines
  5. Basketball courts have been repurposed for exercise equipment usage
  6. Basketball or other contact sports are not authorized at this time
  7. Locker rooms will be limited to toilet and sink areas, no lockers will be available for use. Draw string bags are encouraged for items of value.  
  8. It is recommended to come dressed, ready to workout   

We are asking all patrons to:

  1. Face Coverings, defined by Youngstown State University, must be worn within the Andrews Student Recreation & Wellness Center and during all Campus Recreation activities and programs. If a patron is seen without a face covering, staff will ask them to self-correct. If this does not occur or becomes a pattern, they will be documented for non-compliance and a violation of University rules. Those with medical exceptions will need to provide documentation through disability services.
  2. Monitor yourself for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 and take necessary precautions when necessary   
  3. Please maintain social distancing while using our services or facilities 
  4. Clean equipment before and after each use, sanitation stations are available throughout the facility 
  5. Respect and be courteous to others while utilizing the facility 
  6. Control weights at all times, spotting is not authorized at this time 
  7. Please monitor exercise intensity levels and stay hydrated 

Campus Recreation is looking out for your safety:

  1. Providing contactless ID Scanners at Front Desk and Equipment Issue
  2. Campus Recreation has increased the frequency of cleaning in work areas, and we are performing deep cleaning daily to the entire facility and equipment
  3. Sanitizing equipment twice per day, in addition to patrons cleaning pre and post use of equipment  
  4. Increasing towel washing throughout the day
  5. Adhering to State and National guidelines
  6. Offering cashless purchases through online store
  7. Additional staff training is being completed
  8. Campus Recreation staff members are receiving additional training on both new measures and the continued importance of personal health and hygiene.

Modifications 

All precautions are in accordance with Ohio Department of Health orders and guidelines. We appreciate your help and understanding as we work through this time together. 

Andrews Student Recreation & Wellness Center:

  1. Areas may limit number of patrons in each space to maintain Ohio Department of Health guidelines and social distancing protocols
  2. Please follow and adhere to signage throughout the facility
  3. Water Fountains are not able to be used currently. Please use water bottle refill stations located in S&C
  4. Extra sanitation stations have been added throughout the facility 

Administrative Offices:

  1. Area is limited to two people at a time, patrons can wait in lobby if needed 

Aerobics Studio: 

  1. Group X have been relocated to the Sports Forum temporarily 
    1. Group X Policies:
    • Registration is required for all classes
    • Register at https://store.reccenter.ysu.edu/
    • Face coverings are required to be worn during all Group X Classes
    • Classes will be offered on Basketball Courts B, C & D
    • Classes offerings and sizes will be limited to meet State and University Guidelines
  2. The studios have been converted to two individual spaces
  3. Each space is limited to ten patrons per space
  4. Please do not take equipment in or out of each space

Climbing Wall:

  1. Beginning 09/21/20 The climbing wall will reopen for bouldering and auto-belay 

  2. Patrons MUST sanitize their hands before climbing

  3. Patrons must wear a face covering while climbing

  4. 6 patrons are allowed on mats/climbing at once

  5. 2 patrons may watch or be “on deck" at the benches

  6. Climb sessions will be limited to 15 minutes when the wall is at capacity

  7. If a “clean” card is in the cubby move it to the white basket and place your belongings in that cubby

  8. Once you remove your items staff will clean the cubby and replace the card

  9. Patrons who do not arrive with a climbing partner who is within their household are encouraged to ask the wall monitors about proper falling techniques and areas to avoid.

  10. Spotting is encouraged between patrons who live together. Staff is discouraged from providing a spot for patrons.

  11. Shoes and harnesses will be returned to a bin instead of the desk

  12. Four complete bouldering routes will serve as a mile for mile high

  13. Pegs can be checked out, but patrons must wipe down pegs and board after use

  14. The wall will be divided into 6 lanes with one person climbing per lane at a time

  15. The mats will have an occupancy of 6 with the entire wall area having an occupancy of 10

  16. Harness rentals will take place 2 days out of the week for use of auto belays

  17. Patrons with their own harness may use the auto-belay ONLY as long as an employee who has performed emergency procedures refresher is present at the wall

  18. When there is a line, sessions are limited to 15 minutes as tracked by the person on the wall duty
  19. Personal chalk and chalk bags are encouraged; 1 drop of liquid chalk will be provided per climb sessions

Lobby:

  1. Area is limited to ten people at a time 

Locker Rooms:

  1. Showers are not able to be utilized at this time
  2. Locker rooms will be limited to toilet and sink areas, no lockers will be available for use. Draw string bags are encouraged for items of value
  3. Personal belongings can also be stored in charging station or cubbies located throughout the facility

Meditation Studio:

  1. Area is limited to three people at a time

Racquetball Court:

  1. Racquetball Courts are closed currently

Sports Forum: 

  1. Basketball Courts have been repurposed for exercise equipment usage
  2. Basketball or other contact sports are not authorized at this time
  3. Extra cleaning supplies have been placed in the center of each area 

Strength & Conditioning Area:

  1. Cardio:
    1. Several pieces of the cardio equipment has been moved to the sports forum
    2. Cardio equipment has been spread out to meet to maintain Ohio Department of Health guidelines and social distancing protocols
  2. Dumbbell Area:
    1. Area is limited to ten people at a time
    2. Several pieces of the exercise equipment has been moved to the sports forum
  3. Strength Equipment: 
    1. Several pieces of the strength equipment has been moved to the sports forum
    2. Strength equipment has been spread out to meet to maintain Ohio Department of Health guidelines and social distancing protocols

Track:

  1. Refrain from walking or running with others
  2. When passing another patron use the furthest lane to keep

    as much distance as possible

Wellness Resource Center:

  1. Area is limited to three people at a time 
  2. Fitness assessment registration is online only
