The Youngstown State University Alternative Retirement Program (ARP) is available to new full time employees in lieu of participation in the OPERS or STRS retirement plans. Employee contributions and employer contributions are the same as the state retirement plans however, there are mitigating fees that vary between the programs.
An election in the ARP must be done within 120 days of employment. A list of the vendors available to YSU employees is below. It is the employee’s responsibility to contact the vendor and enroll in their plan. This may be done online or with a paper application based on the vendor’s process. Once the enrollment is complete, the employee must submit a copy of the confirmation or application to Human Resources within the 120 day requirement.
