Mathematics Major
You're the problem solver. The data addict. So why not make a career out of it?
What You'll Study
Gauss described mathematics as the "queen of the sciences" because of its impact on so many fields of study. Mathematics students develop the ability to reason through complex problems and to analyze and model quantitatively.
As a mathematics major at YSU, you have the opportunity to study a variety of areas of mathematics and statistics, including applied mathematics, biomathematics, actuarial science, theoretical mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education through our classes and opportunities for student research. This research is often interdisciplinary in nature with applications to fields such as biology, physics, chemistry, economics, and medicine.
Mathematics and statistics graduates are sought after because of their analytic and problem solving abilities.
