Nearly 1,600 to graduate May 7 in Stambaugh Stadium
Youngstown State University’s Spring Commencement will be outdoors again this year 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, in Stambaugh Stadium on campus.
“On behalf of the entire YSU campus community, we look forward to joining with friends and family to celebrate this special day with our graduates,” said Brien Smith, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.
Nearly 1,600 students will receive degrees.
The ceremony will be held rain or shine, and attendees should come dressed for the weather. (If weather is extreme, the ceremony will be switched to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 8.)
This is the second consecutive year that YSU has staged commencement outdoors at the stadium, after decades of ceremonies inside Beeghly Center that were becoming increasingly crowded.
Last year’s outdoor event was split into two ceremonies, morning and afternoon, for COVID-19 precautions. This year, all students will graduate in one, single ceremony. Tickets are not required.
The ceremony will also be live streamed on the YSU YouTube channel or by going to the YSU homepage.
