Jazz Day and Saxophone Summit

The Dana School of Music at YSU invites high school students, music educators, college students and others to bring your horns and join us for Jazz Day and Saxophone Summit on Saturday, January 18, 2020 in Bliss Hall from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.

Jazz clinics and concerts will feature the world-renowned jazz educator and performer Jamey Aebersold. Classical performances and solo clinics will be presented by Dr. James Umble, YSU professor of saxophone, nationally recognized saxophone teacher, soloist, chamber musician and author.

There will be a clinic for Band Directors on "Improving the Saxophone Section in Your Band."

Breakout sessions on jazz drumming, jazz bass and keyboard with outstanding YSU Jazz Faculty: Kent Engelhardt (saxophone and piano), Dave Morgan (bass), jazz drummer and percussion faculty Glenn Schaft. Longtime Aebersold Jazz Camp faculty & YSU Jazz Saxophone faculty member Dave Kana will also perform and present.

Performances by Jamey Aebersold, YSU faculty, YSU saxophone quartets & jazz combos and more!

The event is free. Advanced registration recommended at ysu.edu/music/jazz-sax-summit to facilitate communication in the event of bad weather but not required.

Free parking will be available via the Wick Avenue entrance of the M30 parking garage adjacent to Bliss Hall (#25 on campus map). Be sure to mention to the parking attendant that you are here for the Jazz Day and Saxophone Summit. Please park on the 3rd level in garage for easiest access to Bliss Hall.

Refreshments and light lunch will be provided.
