INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CREDIT TRANSFER GUIDE

Credit Transfer Evaluation Process for International Students

Step 1

Follow the instruction to apply as an international undergraduate transfer student and get admitted.

Step 2

You must arrange for your official transcripts to be sent to YSU International Admissions after you are admitted. All Official transcripts and academic records must be in sealed envelopes from the originating institution, with an institutional stamp or signature on the closed envelop flap. For students who are transferring from another U.S. college, you may choose to send your official transcripts electronically if applicable.

  • MAIL-IN ADDRESS (for most foreign universities):
    Office of International Admissions
    Youngstown State University
    Jones Hall 1042
    1 University Plaza,
    Youngstown, OH 44555, USA
  • For electronic delivery (for most U.S. colleges), if an E-mail address is needed, please use intadm@ysu.edu
  • Please checkHow to submit official Credentials for details.

Step 3

Once your official transcripts are received, your transcripts will be entered into our system.  Applicants must submit all materials requested in order for credit transfer to be approved.

If you are transferring from a foreign university, you should prepare course descriptions for each course you have taken in Word Format. An IPO staff member will email you to request course descriptions once your credit transfer process starts. For more details, please check Credit Transfer Process page.

Please Note: Curriculums vary from major to major. It is possible that some of your credits will not be transferred into your YSU major.

Step 4

Once the courses have been entered and evaluated, an email will be sent to you, providing you with the information of the number of transfer credits that can be transferred to your major.

Step 5

Study plans that include the transferred credit will be given to you at international student orientation when you meet with your advisor. Please note that your study plan will not be ready prior to the international student orientation.
