ADN Admission Requirements

Spring 2026 Cohort

Applications for the Spring 2026 Cohort will be accepted from September 8, 2025 through October 17, 2025.

The admission requirements for the ADN Program consist of two parts: 

  1. General College Admission Requirements for YSU
  2. Nursing Program Requirements.

PART I: GENERAL COLLEGE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

The applicant must meet the requirements for general admission to Youngstown State University

PART II: NURSING PROGRAM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

To be eligible for admission into the nursing program, the applicant must meet the following minimum requirements: 

  1. Be fully admitted to YSU with all transcripts on file by Friday, October 10, 2025.
  2. Apply to YSU Here Applicants must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent before the first day of class. The transcript should be on file with the Admission’s Office.
  3. Former and current YSU students must be in good standing and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher at YSU.
  4. Completion of high school chemistry and biology or college equivalent with a C or higher.
  5. High School GPA of 2.5 or higher (not required if you have successfully completed college courses).
  6. Completion of all required pre-requisite course work with a C or higher and at least a 2.5 pre-nursing GPA.
  7. Complete the TEAS test and submit official scores to YSU by October 10, 2025.How to send a transcript for TEAS to YSU.
  8. Maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher from YSU.

Required Pre-requisite Course Work: 

Students must have completed the three courses below with a C or better within the last five years before starting the program. These courses will make up your Pre-Nursing GPA which must be a 2.5 or higher. 

  • Biology 1551 with Lab (Anatomy and Physiology I)
  • Statistics 2625 or 2625c (Statistical Literacy and Critical Reasoning)
  • English 1549 or 1550 (Writing I) 

 

Required Testing: ATI TEAS 

  • Minimum Score: Overall TEAS score of 66% or higher.
  • Retakes: The TEAS test can be retaken twice within a 12-month period, with a 14-day waiting period between attempts.
  • TEAS scores are valid for two years.
    1. The ATI TEAS, or Test of Essential Academic Skills, is a standardized test designed specifically to assess a student's preparedness for entering the health science fields. Questions are designed to test the basic academic skills you will need to perform successfully in the areas of: Reading, Math, Science, and English and Language Usage.

APPLYING FOR ADMISSION

After meeting the program admission requirements described in this document (see checklist below), applicants should submit an Online Request for Review (see below). Please note, having one of the required areas missing will result in a decline of review. Only students who request a review and meet the requirements will receive a link to apply to the program. 

After completing the admission requirements, applicants may submit for a review beginning September 2, 2025. If it is determined that all requirements are met, the student will receive an application for the program and can apply beginning September 8, 2025. 

Students who accept a slot in the nursing program (with a specific starting date for nursing courses) and do not attend orientation, decline a slot after orientation, do not attend the first day of class, do not meet all medical record, health insurance, CPR, and/or background check requirements will be required to re-start the application process. Students must meet all current admission requirements at the time of application. 

Please use this checklist to determine when you are ready to submit a Request for Review. 

Do not request a review until all requirements have been met. 

The last day to submit a Request for Review is Wednesday, October 14, 2025 at 4:00PM EST.

Checklist: 

  • I have been fully admitted to Youngstown State University and have my student ID number
  • I have submitted all required transcripts to YSU Records
  • I have completed high school chemistry and biology, or college equivalent, with a C or higher
  • TEAS test is taken, the minimum score is met, and scores are submitted to YSU.
  • Copy of your “TEAS Test Score Sheet” to upload with your Request for Review. Please make sure to include the full report.
  • My overall GPA is a 2.0 or higher (former or current YSU students must have a 2.0 or higher at YSU)
  • I have completed the required pre-requisites with a 2.5 GPA or higher. 

I have reviewed the checklist and confirm that I meet all the criteria. 

I understand requesting a review does not guarantee my acceptance into the program. 

Upon a successful review, students will be sent, via YSU Student email, information to proceed with the ADN application. Please note, this process may take 2-3 weeks.
