University Theatre season opens with "The Glass Menagerie"
Youngstown State University Theatre streams Tennessee Williams’ classic play, The Glass Menagerie, Sept. 25, 26 and 27 and Oct. 2, 3 and 4.
To adhere with coronavirus safety precautions, the first mainstage performance of Fall semester is being streamed. Friday performances are 7:30 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday performances at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
"In these days of Covid, the creative team and I are breaking new ground to deliver a high quality theatre experience using streaming technology,” said Matthew Mazuroski, director and associate professor of Theatre and Dance at YSU. “By adapting this traditional theatre experience into a more filmic experience, we are recording the work of the actors, designers and crew that allows us to continue our educational mission in a robust and rewarding way - one I strongly believe that our audiences will thoroughly enjoy."
Ticket prices are $10 for single viewers and $25 for group viewing. YSU students and employees can watch for free by using their Banner ID.
The cast includes Nate Montgomery of Columbiana, Ohio, a senior Theatre major; Elise Vargo of Westerville, Ohio, a sophomore Theatre/Musical Theatre major, and Mitchell Sharp of Beloit, Ohio, a sophomore Theatre major. Guest artist Molly Galano, veteran regional community theatre actor, will perform the role of Amanda Wingfield. Galano has performed at the Youngstown Playhouse, the New Castle Playhouse, The Oakland Center for the Arts, The Rust Belt Theater, as well as two other University Theatre productions.
Technical staff includes Scenic Designer Todd Dicken, Production Manager and Technical Director Ryan Fitzpatrick, Sound Designer Johnny Pecano, Sound Mixer Thomas DeLuca, Sound Engineer Ryan Donchess;, Costume, Wig and Makeup Designer Katherine N. Garlick, Properties Designer Wendy Akers, Lighting Designer Nic Wix, Video Editors Ryan Donchess and Miles Garrett and Videographers Matthew Mazuroski and Miles Garrett.
