Monday, Oct. 12, 10 a.m. Robert T. Alter, foreign service officer from the U.S. Department of State, speaks in the James Gallery of Kilcawley Center. The lecture, free and open to the public, is presented by the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. More. Monday, Oct. 12, 7 p.m. YSU Dana School of Music Jazz Ensembles perform in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. Tuesday, Oct. 13. The YSU Department of Biological Sciences presents Biology Day, which includes a research poster presentation in the morning in the President Suites of Kilcawley Center and a series of presentations and discussions in the afternoon in Ward Beecher Hall. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 5:30 p.m. Organizers of the Youngstown Game Developers Group present a lecture titled, “A Day in the Life of an Indie Game Developer” in the auditorium of the McDonough Museum of Art on campus. Wednesday, Oct. 14. The Microscopy Society of Northeastern Ohio Fall Meeting will be held in Kilcawley Center, hosted by the YSU Electron Microscopy Facility through the YSU-CEMSE and organized by Dr. Dingqiang Li, the Manager of YSU-EMF. Tours and demos of the YSU Center for Innovation in Additive Manufacturing and Electron Microscopy facilities will be available.

Wednesday, Oct. 14, 8:30 a.m. Students considering attending YSU’s Dana School of Music are invited to a Fall Open House in Bliss Hall’s first floor lobby near the University Theater Box Office. More. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 12:15 p.m. The Dana School of Music presents a faculty recital as part of the free Music and Noon concert series in the Butler Institute of American Art. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 7 p.m. “Wasting Away: Four states’ failure to manage gas and oil field waste from the Marcellus and Utica Shale,” a lecture Nadia Steinzor, Eastern Program Coordinator Oil and Gas Accountability Project Earthworks. The presentation is part of the Speaker Series on Energy and the Environment at YSU. More.

 

Thursday, Oct. 15, 12:30 p.m. Shaun B. Nichols, a professor at the University of Arizona and president-elect of the Society for Philosophy and Psychology, lectures on “Morality and the Emotional Brain” in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. The lecture, free and open to the public, is part of the Shipka Speakers Series of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at YSU. More. Thursday, Oct. 15, 4 p.m. Contemporary photographer David Hilliard, known for his panoramic photographs documenting his life and the lives of those around him, lectures in the McDonough Museum of Art on campus. The lecture, presented by YSU’s Department of Art, is free and open to the public. Thursday, Oct. 15, 7 to 11 p.m. Live music, a bonfire, food and drink vendors and a pep rally are planned as part of the third annual Fall Fire Fest at YSU. The event, held in conjunction with YSU’s 75th Homecoming celebration, is at the Green on Grant, located at the intersection of Grant Street and Ford Avenue on the west side of campus. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. Tickets are not required. The event is sponsored by YSU Penguin Productions. Thursday, Oct. 15, 7:30 p.m. The Dana School of Music Concert Band and Wind Ensemble present “Suites & Overtures,” with guest conductor Wayne Bailey of Arizona State University, in Stambaugh Auditorium. Friday, Oct. 16, 6 p.m. The Warren P. Williamson, Jr. College of Business Administration at YSU presents the 2015 WCBA Outstanding Alumni Awards at the WCBA Alumni Banquet in Williamson Hall on the YSU campus. More. Friday, Oct. 16, 7 p.m. YSU volleyball takes on UIC in Beeghly Center. The team also plays Valparaiso 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16, 17 and 18. University Theater presents the musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” in Ford Theater in Bliss Hall. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday matinee performances are at 2 p.m. More. Saturday, Oct. 17. YSU celebrates its 75th annual Homecoming. Festivities include the annual Homecoming parade up Fifth Avenue at 2 p.m., followed by the Homecoming football game against South Dakota State at 4 p.m. in Stambaugh Stadium, where the 2015 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at halftime. A complete schedule of events during Homecoming week. Saturday, Oct. 17, 4 p.m. YSU Penguins hit the gridiron for Homecoming against South Dakota State in Stambaugh Stadium. Sunday, Oct. 18, 3 p.m. Misook Yun’s Voice Studio Recital in Bliss Recital Hall. Sunday, Oct. 18, 7:30 p.m. The Robert D. Fitzer Clarinet Series presents guest artist Richard MacDowell in Bliss Recital Hall.
