Photographer lectures at McDonough this week

"Final Destination" by contemporary photographer David Hilliard.

Contemporary photographer David Hilliard, known for his panoramic photographs documenting his life and the lives of those around him, lectures 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in the McDonough Museum of Art on the campus of Youngstown State University. The lecture, presented by YSU’s Department of Art, is free and open to the public.

Hilliard records events and attempts to create order in a sometimes chaotic world. His photographs focus on the personal, the familiar and the simply ordinary, and the work strikes a balance between autobiography and fiction. Within the photographs physical distance is often manipulated to represent emotional distance. Hilliard constructs his panoramic images comprised of various single images. He earned a bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1992 from the Massachusetts College of Art and a master of Fine Arts in 1994 from Yale University School of Art. Parking is available in the Wick Avenue deck for a nominal fee. For more information, call 330-941-2307.
