Islamic art expert presents lecture April 17 on Campus
Sheila Blair, Norma Jean Calderwood University professor of Islamic and Asian Art at Boston College, lectures on "When Writing Becomes Art: A Key Aspect of Islamic Culture" 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the President’s Suite in Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University.
The presentation, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Center for Islamic Studies.
Blair is author or co-author of 17 books and more than 200 academic articles, she has won many international awards in her field. She teaches about all aspects of Islamic art from the earliest to modern times and with her husband and colleague, Jonathan Bloom, she served as artistic consultant to the three-hour documentary Islam: Empire of Faith, shown nationally on PBS.
