Dana School of Music announces Youth Orchestra auditions

The Dana School of Music announces auditions for the upcoming Youngstown State University Youth Orchestra 2021-2022 season.

Formerly the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra, the group is now sponsored and supported by the Cliffe College of Creative Arts and the Dana School of Music.

“This ensemble plays an important role in the cultural life of the Mahoning Valley as it provides excellent instruction and experiences for young musicians," said Randall E. Goldberg, acting director of Dana. "We are excited to host the YSUYO at Bliss Hall.”

The Youngstown State University Youth Orchestra is open to all students ages 13-18, by audition, and presents two concerts annually. Directed by Dana faculty member Michael Butler and Richard Smrek, assistant director, the group meets weekly on Monday evenings in Bliss Hall.

Auditions by instrument and appointment are scheduled to begin on Sunday, September 12. Interested students should text Julie Larson at 330-550-5528 and provide their full name, school and grade, instrument, cell number and email address.

Questions may be addressed to Butler at mbutler03@ysu.edu.
