We are looking for a Graduate Assistant Intern for Marketing and Social Media in Housing & Residence Life!

We are a smaller staff of young(ish) professionals who are looking for someone reliable, hard-working, energetic, and most importantly, fun, to join our team. The position title may sound basic, but we assure you, this position is quite the opposite.  Marketing plays a key role in helping students, particularly first year students, understand why they should live with us versus all the other housing options.

If you were working for us, here are some of the things you would have done over the last few weeks:

  • Ensured all current social media platforms have creative and original content.  Spend time brainstorming ideas for future posts and reviewing the weekly analytics to see what is gaining attention and interaction and where changes need to occur.
  • Met with the Housing Coordinators and AD of Res Life to find out what programs and other education initiatives they are preparing.
  • Prepared for and attended various “marketing events” around campus, including Penguin Preview Day, Open Houses, and Audition days. These often occur on weekends.
  • Checked out and followed other HRL social media accounts to see what other campuses are doing.
  • Prepared a media marketing plan which includes print, web, social media, and other platforms to reach incoming and current residential students.
  • Met with facilities to see if you can follow along with a maintenance crew member or other staff for a day in the life story.
  • Presented the initial brochure updates to your supervisor and the director for feedback.

Please apply if you are:

  1. Someone who thinks creatively and always wants to improve. Status quo is not your mantra.
  2. Someone who is personable and outgoing. You like to meet people and find out what makes them tick. Chatting with students and parents, answering their questions, and talking about why you love being a penguin at YSU, is fun for you.
  3. Someone who produces a thought-out plan and then puts it into action.  Working quickly and accurately are your strengths.
  4. Someone who will work until the project is done. Whether this be covering an event, making posts, and reviewing the fourth edit of a brochure.

Please don’t think:

  1. This position requires a housing background.
  2. You need to be in an academic program related to housing or residence life management.
  3. You must have graphic design skills. It is a bonus if you do, but not required.

To reiterate:
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic enough to hit the ground running and immediately begin contributing to our team by assisting in the overall management and coordination of anything marketing and recruitment related.

While we have some flexibility, this appointment would run May 15, 2024, through the end of the Spring 2025 semester. If we end up loving the way you contribute to our team, this appointment would be renewable for a second year.

If this job sounds like something you’d like to do while you take classes toward your graduate degree, then we definitely want to hear from you!

Oh, and did we mention the compensation?
The selected applicant will receive full tuition remission and a $7,500 stipend throughout the Fall and Spring semesters (paid in bi-monthly increments), a one-bedroom apartment on campus housing (rent-free), and a full meal plan.

During any summer sessions that the selected applicant works, they will receive $12/hour for up to 25 hours/week (20 hours if an international student), a one-bedroom apartment (rent free) and a summer meal plan, in lieu of tuition remission and stipend.

HOW TO APPLY:

Please submit your resume, cover letter and references to Stephanie Reed at sjreed02@ysu.edu

For the cover letter: Please review our current social media @ysu_hrl and give us three ways to improve our social media presence. We would love to check out your social media (if that would show us your talents) so include your handles if you’d like.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received. The priority application deadline is March 17, 2024.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree, full-time enrollment in a graduate program at YSU.
