Position Title: Residence Hall Desk Attendant

Position Description:

  • Provide support to residents as needed as a first person of contact for Housing & Residence Life
  • Represent the office in a positive light at all times through professionalism and courtesy
  • Answer telephones for Housing & Residence Life in a polite, helpful manner.
  • Take concise messages for Housing staff and assist callers in accessing other departments on campus
  • Maintain a clean and organized front desk area
  • Monitor video and security equipment including communication with supervisor when equipment is not working
  • Confront and manage situations in which there are potential violations of policies
  • Routinely sign in and out residence hall visitors in StarRez
  • Sort and log in packages in EzTrackIt
  • Effectively provide basic information concerning Housing & Residence Life, Auxiliary Services, and the University at large
  • Responsible for attending mandatory training prior to fall semester
  • Serve at minimum one Move in Crew shift during Move In Day
  • Requ5-35&8.50ired to work during University breaks when residence halls remain open as needed
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with Desk Managers other Desk Assistants, Resident Assistants, professional staff and other support staff in the residence hall
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Full-time student in good academic standing with Youngstown State University
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including skills in telephone answering and message-taking
  • Interpersonal skills appropriate to a service-oriented environment
  • Ability to cooperate flexibly with fellow student employees and staff members
  • Ability to learn basic information related to Housing & Residence Life and other general University information
  • General clerical skills including use of basic office equipment, filing, copying, sorting/distributing mail, etc.
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to all regulations outlined in the Housing & Residence Life Desk Attendant manual
  • Commitment to confidentiality, organization, neatness, punctuality, and positive attitude

Reports to: Desk Manager/Housing Coordinator

Hours Per Week: Minimum of 5 hours per week/Maximum of 25 hours per week

Wage: Hourly rate as established by the University, which is currently $8.50/hour
