The residence halls close for winter break on Friday, December 13th at 9pm.
Students who need to stay in housing beyond this date must request permission by completing a contract extension request by the preferred deadline of December 1st.
Students will receive specific information about Fall check-out and options for check-out via their YSU student email, so please stay tuned!
*Due to their contract-type, please note that Weller residents are able to remain on campus over winter break however they are encouraged to please register for winter break housing using the request link below.
Need to request winter break housing?
Please complete and submit a request to extend your contract over the winter break period. Please note that break housing is not guaranteed and will incur a flat rate cost of $250 for the break period, regardless of length of stay. No meals are provided as part of the break housing fee, so residents should plan ahead and consider purchasing groceries, any of the ‘grab and go’ selections from the Chartwells Dining locations, or utilizing Grub Hub with your Pete’s Points to meet your dietary needs if you will be remaining in your residence hall room over these dates.
Know you aren’t returning to the residence halls next semester? The Housing Office needs to know!
If you know you aren’t returning next semester, please complete a request for release from housing contract and submit to the Housing Office at housing@ysu.edu. Do this by the preferred deadline of November 15th to ensure an expedited review and to receive your outcome notification prior to the end of the semester. Please know, your Housing contract spans the full academic year and release from your contract is not guaranteed. The Housing Room Change Freeze Period occurs December 2 – January 20
During this time, no room changes will be approved or can occur. If you’d like to change into a different room space OR if you have connected with another student in a half-filled room and you’ve decided you’d like to consolidate (move in together) this move needs to be approved by the Housing office and must occur PRIOR to December 2.
This coming spring semester, YSU anticipates an influx of international students due to very high recruitment numbers. We are planning for ALL vacant beds/rooms to be filled for the spring semester. If you currently do not have a roommate, you should anticipate that you will have one for the spring semester. As such, please plan accordingly prior to leaving for winter break to ensure that the empty bed/side of the room is clean and clear of your belongings. The Housing team will be conducting checks over winter break for all half-filled rooms and reserves the right to move belongings to ensure that rooms/beds are clear and prepped accordingly to welcome new incoming students.
Preparing for Spring 2025 Semester
Spring move-in occurs on Sunday, January 5, starting at 10:00am. In order to receive your keys to move-in or return to your residence hall room, you’ll need to be sure to complete the following:

Your Spring student account balance (housing AND tuition) must be paid in full (zero balance) or you must be re-enrolled in the University payment plan

You must have met the Housing immunization requirement

You must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours (full-time)
