What You'll Study

The YSU Long-Term Care Administration (LTCA) program prepares you to become a specialized, licensed administrator in nursing homes, retirement communities or related health care industries. Whether you're an adult already working in long-term care and seeking professional advancement or a responsible traditional student with leadership skills and the desire to work with the elderly population, the program will help you reach your goals.

You'll spend class time learning a variety of health care and management strategies while honing your practical skills at a 1,000-hour internship. This combination of learning will make you an asset to employers the moment you have your degree in hand.


  • Long-Term Care Administration Major

    With courses ranging from nutrition and nursing to accounting and environmental regulations, students will be prepared to handle a variety of challenges in the LTCA field. Graduates of the LTCA program earn a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science in long term care administration degree and are eligible to then work with the State of Ohio to enter the Core of Knowledge and Administrator in Training to work toward licensure as a nursing home administrator.

  • Gerontology Minor

    Completing the Gerontology minor will give you the specialized tools required to service our elderly population. This is a complementary skill set for students majoring in Long-Term Care Administration.

  • Applied Gerontology Certificate

    A certificate in Applied Gerontology combines a number of gerontology, sociology and psychology courses, along with a fieldwork requirement. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to customize your curriculum with a variety of electives to choose from.
