Summer In America Intern

Position Description:
We are looking for Eager and Engaging students to become a Summer In America Student Interns. Students who are selected and successfully complete the program will be awarded the International, Cross-Cultural Leadership Certification by the International Programs Office.This Certification will also quantify the cross-cultural skills that Interns have acquired over the course of the internship.

Help show international students what American culture looks like by leading group activities in Youngstown, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Washington D.C., and New York City, and going abroad to places like South Korea, Taiwan, or Indonesia!

What is Summer In America?

Think of a summer camp for international students from countries all over Asia, involving English conversation courses, group activities, and team building and cross-cultural exercises. This includes activities like going to a county fair or baseball game, and trips to Niagara Falls, Washington D.C., and NYC.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for leading the Summer In America international students throughout the program. This will include but not limited to:

  • Forming relationships with international students in your group.
  • Sharing United States culture with students coming from all over the world.
  • Being daily activity leaders- such as hiking, board and lawn games, museums, festivals, etc.
  • Being “on call” during evenings for social activities or to assist international students as needed.
  • Leading groups of students in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., New York City, and Niagara Falls (along with staff- don’t worry!).
  • Learning and practicing quality leadership skills.

What will you get?

You will acquire extensive cross-cultural leadership training and experience both in Youngstown and abroad. With successful completion of the program, you will also earn an International, Cross-Cultural Leadership Certificate from the International Programs Office at YSU.

The International Programs Office will also pay for YOU to attend a similar program in another country such as Taiwan, South Korea, or Indonesia. IPO will pay for the program costs, insurance, and your roundtrip international flight!

Interns will earn a $1,000 stipend. Interns’ while covering all housing, meals, and activity costs for the 3 week Summer In America Program will also be covered.

Position Description:

Position Description:

  1. Register and schedule test candidates via walk-in, phone, or email.

  3. Greet test candidates, complete verification and registration process,check-in candidates, review instructions and launch computer-based and internet-based exams.
  4. Assist with the preparation and delivery of national, graduate and professional exams. May serve as member of the proctor or room supervisor staff for weekend paper and pencil testing.
  5. Assist with the scanning of faculty classroom exams by accepting,scanning, emailing, releasing and monitoring all faculty documents to ensure security and confidentiality.
