MAJOR: Biology (Pre-Physical Therapy Track)

PROFESSIONAL GOALS: Following graduation, I plan to continue my education through YSU’s physical therapy program. Although there are many possible specialties and career paths to consider, I am currently most interested in working in an acute rehab or hospital setting, working with stroke patients, or pursuing some type of medical mission work in a Spanish-speaking country. Ultimately, I want to show my patients respect, communicate a sense of value to them, and be able to see a measurable impact on their quality of life.


PERSONAL GOALS: I want my life to be spent investing in others in a way that demonstrates hope and joy. Wherever I end up and however my professional career takes shape, I want to be able to use every aspect of my life as a means of showing others the love and truth that is in Jesus.

I love languages, learning, trying new experiences, and meeting new people. it is my goal to continually foster a sense of learning and purpose in my own life and in those around me.

PROFESSIONAL GOALS: My professional goals start by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in exercise science/physical therapy, then I plan to attend the Youngstown State University Doctor of Physical Therapy program. One day, I hope to open up my own practice to rehabilitate, strengthen, and heal patients. I would also like to open an all-star cheerleading gym alongside of having my own practice.

PERSONAL GOALS: Some personal goals I strive to achieve include continuously helping my self-development to become a better person and achieving more emotional intelligence. Additionally, I hope to learn and implement coping skills that result in a reduction of my anxiety. Lastly, I hope to continue to always support my Penguins and my YSU family.

Kennedy Romeo

MAJOR: Philosophy and Sociology

MINOR: Nonprofit Leadership

PROFESSIONAL GOALS:  I am currently in the process of applying to master’s programs in either public policy or public administration with a concentration in nonprofit management. After the completion of my master’s degree I plan to work for a nonprofit or governmental agency dealing with food insecurity in schools and other social issues including race relations, higher education affordability, and fair housing practices. Looking far into the future, I would love to start my own nonprofit focused on supporting single parent households.

PERSONAL GOALS: Moving forward, I am excited to expand my circle of peers as I continue on to graduate school. I plan to continue my involvement with Student Government organizations as I enter graduate school as I feel it is an excellent way to create necessary change on college campuses. Personally, I am looking forward to traveling the United States and abroad after I graduate, and potentially completing some work with the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps.

MAJOR: Biology

MINOR: Environmental Studies

PROFESSIONAL GOALS: I will be continuing my graduate education at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. I am 1 of 8 students internationally accepted into the Master of Professional Science program in the Marine Mammal Science track. My goal after graduating this program is to further my education into the five year PhD program. My overall professional goal is hopefully to someday work in a conservation center with marine mammals and complete further research studies into marine life. I would love to focus in shark biology and be one of the biologists that appear on shark week.

PERSONAL GOALS: I want to achieve my established goals and truly make a difference in the field of marine biology. I want to be an advocate and a leader in the ever-growing need of protecting our oceans. Through my program at the University of Miami, I want to become a mentor for the younger generation and travel to local communities, teaching the importance of the field of marine biology.

MAJOR: Primary Education & Primary Special Education

PROFESSIONAL GOALS: I plan to graduate Youngstown State University in Fall of 2021 with my bachelor’s degree in early childhood education/intervention specialist. Following my graduation, I plan to further my education by pursuing a master’s degree in applied behavior analysis to pursue a focus in behavior and special education. It is my desire to work in either a 4th grade classroom or in a special education classroom. After spending time working in my field, I would like to pursue my doctorate degree and work as a professor. This way I can shape minds the way my professors have shaped mine.

PERSONAL GOALS: Personally, I want to impact the lives of children with disabilities both through my work and daily life. I want to work to impact their lives and the lives of their families. I also have a goal to one day travel the world. I want to travel the world and volunteer my time in those countries, by helping them in any way they need. I also want to achieve success in my career as well as having a big and happy family. I want to know that I went throughout my life leaving a positive impact on everyone that I have had the pleasure to meet.

PROFESSIONAL GOALS: My professional goal is to continue working in the automotive industry. I love working in the marketing field and being surrounded by cars. As a result, I am currently gaining experience at Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC as a Marketing Intern. Since I was a kid, I have always dreamt of working for Lamborghini. I am fascinated by their design, power, culture and work ethic.  Lastly, my goal is to find an American company that can sponsor me upon graduation!

PERSONAL GOALS: My two personal goals are to strengthen my relationship with God and be an inspiration for others. Before coming to America, finding inspiration was what motivated me. Now, I am humbled to be an inspiration for my peers.  As I experience failures and successes, I am determined to be the hardest worker in the room to make my dream come true: build a life in America.  I am grateful to be a Homecoming candidate. My parents are already proud and that makes me happy. I will keep working, I will keep dreaming, because I know that I did not get this far for no reason.

PROFESSIONAL GOALS: My dream job is to be a Tuba Euphonium Professor at a university like YSU. Being able to guide college students into the professional music world is a dream of mine. Besides teaching at a university, I would love to play in a local orchestra and band. I love performing. Performing for my peers and family is what makes me happiest in life. Being able to share what I love with people I love is one of the reasons why I am pursuing a career in music.

PERSONAL GOALS: I would consider myself a very positive person. I obtain joy through others. Over the 21 years of my life I have had the honor to play for audiences all across the world. Every time I play for someone it makes me feel good because hopefully I have impacted their life in a positive way. I would love to be able to make every person I play for and talk to a little bit happier.

PROFESSIONAL GOALS: As a senior at Youngstown State University, I was afforded the opportunity to explore what I wanted to do for my professional future. Upon graduation this spring semester, I am intending to study genetic counseling and earn my master’s degree. After the completion of my master’s degree, I would like to service the underrepresented population in the clinical setting of a major hospital.

PERSONAL GOALS: Personally, I would like to move to a warmer climate! Being raised in South Carolina, I grew up with never seeing snow or never having to deice my car, and I lowkey miss that luxury. I like to believe that migrating to a warmer climate would ultimately improving my overall mood thus making me a “nicer, warmer” person. Subsequently, these efforts would make the world a better place one Avery at a time!

MAJOR: Integrated Mathematics Education

MINOR: Economics

PROFESSIONAL GOALS: After college, I want to start teaching at a local school within the Mahoning Valley or back home in Wayne County! I also want to go back and get my master’s degree in either education or mathematics to one day become a school administrator or a college professor.
Later in life, I see running for political office as a way to make a change on a state level for our local schools and communities!

PERSONAL GOALS: One day, I would like to hike the entire Appalachian Trail over a couple of months. I love nature and backpacking and I believe it will be a very rewarding challenge! This summer, I would love to volunteer my time with AmeriCorps to help students in Summer programs prepare for success in high school and college. I have applied to do my work in an underserved area of Georgia, and I am just waiting to hear back from AmeriCorps to see if I got accepted into the program or not. Fingers crossed!
