First-Lady LeeAnn Johnson
LeeAnn Johnson was born in Anaheim, California, the youngest child and only daughter of four. After several relocations due to work, her family ultimately settled in Clearwater, Florida.
During her high school years, Johnson earned an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification while working part time in various positions for a local dental office, including as a Dental Assistant. It was during this time that she developed a passion in the field of Dental Hygiene. After graduating from high school in 1989, she attended St. Petersburg College, enrolling in one of the top national Dental Hygiene programs in the country at the time and graduated in 1993 with an Associate of Science in dental hygiene.
Following, she earned her license to practice Dental Hygiene in the state of Florida, where she practiced as a Dental Hygienist in both Florida and Michigan until 2006. Today, she continues to work for several dentists in Southeastern Ohio.
Throughout most of her childhood and early adult life, her energies were focused on the performing arts finding them to be an excellent avenue to express her love for music, dance, and theatre. Taking her first lesson at three years old, Johnson has worked to build a reputation as both a skilled and respected choreographer and instructor, with the goal of inspiring others to pursue performing arts . During her high school and college years, she danced competitively, performing at venues in New York City, Las Vegas, and Disney World.
In addition to the arts, Johnson also holds passion for community service and leadership. In 2006, she moved to the Mahoning Valley and immediately became an active leader in her community, including member of the Poland Junior Women's Club; the Canfield Republican Women's Club; Vice President of the Canfield Welcome Wagon; Moms of Pre-Schoolers; and the local Parent Teacher Organization.
Dating back to 2011, Johnson has proudly served in various community service and volunteer roles, including Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Washington County Republican Women's Club; member of the Marietta Welfare League; member of the Washington Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO); member of the Belpre Women's Club; and organizer of Bible studies and book club meetings for women of all ages and professions in Marietta, Ohio. She currently serves on several boards, including the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio; the Ohio First Lady’s Charitable Foundation; the People’s Bank Theatre in Marietta, Ohio; the Executive Board and Secretary for the Appalachian Children Coalition; Board Member and Vice President of the Suicide Alliance of Washington County; Board of Trustees for Washington State Community College in Marietta, Ohio; President and Trustee for the Betsy Mills Club in Marietta, Ohio; and Board Member of the Marietta Fountain Foundation. She is also currently active in several national level organizations such as the US Congressional Spouses Club; a frequently sought advocate and speaker for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP); and the Executive Council of the Congressional Families Cancer Prevention Program of the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
Most recently, Johnson returned to college where graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science in integrated health studies from Ohio University.
Married to Youngstown State University President, Bill Johnson, she is the mother of 20-year-old son and Youngstown State University student, Nathan.
Johnson enjoys spending her downtime reading, golfing, exercising and actively participating at her local church.
