Centofanti Memorial Scholarship

The James and Coralie Centofanti Memorial Scholarship was established in 2012 through a gift provided by the Centofanti Charitable Trust.  The scholarship supports undergraduate and graduate students in health and human service majors who have expressed a sincere desire to serve vulnerable population groups upon graduation. Student's must:

About the Centofanti Center

James Centofanti was born in Sulmona, Italy, in 1920 and immigrated to the United States as a child. He grew up in Youngstown and served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Upon returning to civilian life, Mr. Centofanti was a business owner, a local philanthropist, and an avid horseman. He was a long-time member of the Board of Directors of Farmers National Bank in Canfield, a generous supporter of numerous educational and community-based activities in and around the Canfield, Ohio area, and a recipient of numerous awards for his humanitarian efforts. The James and Coralie Centofanti Center for Health and Welfare for Vulnerable Populations is committed to providing support for educational initiatives, student scholarships, research, and workforce development that promote the well-being of individuals affected by debilitating illness, poverty, disability, and discrimination. Particular emphasis is placed on the health, social and emotional needs of at-risk populations. Activities of the Center address regional needs through focused community engagement.

Fellows program aims to boost mentorship experiences for minority students

A group of Youngstown State University freshmen students will mentor with campus leaders under the new Navarro Executive Fellows program that starts this Fall semester.

The mentoring-work experience program is coordinated by the YSU Division of Multicultural Affairs and is named after Shorty and Elba Navarro, who earlier this year donated $1 million fund scholarships and campus jobs for students.

Dental Hygiene Facilities

Dental Hygiene Clinic

The Dental Hygiene facilities are located in Cushwa Hall on the YSU campus. The facilities consist of a classroom, patient reception area, and two clinics equipped with patient treatment operatories, radiology units, a darkroom, sterilization rooms and locker room. Each student operatory is equipped with a dental chair, dental delivery unit and computer with dental software.  Other features include digital and panoramic radiography. The dental hygiene clinics allow students to gain experience on a diverse population.

Merchandising Facilities

Housed in Cushwa Hall, the Merchandising facilities have a variety of resources available to students. Classrooms are equipped with sewing machines, mannequins and many other accessories needed for merchandising study. Along with the equipment available in Cushwa, the campus library also offers a current collection of books and periodicals to assist in your coursework.

Sewing machinces are available for students to access and use for classwork and study. Classrooms are equipped with the machines to give you the chance to learn proper technique when designing clothes.

Penguin Moot Court team ranked 11th in the nation

Youngstown State University’s Intercollegiate Moot Court program ranks 11th in the nation, above schools such as Duke University, University of Virginia and University of Chicago.

The rankings were compiled by the American Moot Court Association and are based on the average win total of teams over a three-year period.

Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences Facilities

The Criminal Justice and Forensic Science facilities are housed in Cushwa Hall. Interactive labs are available for both programs, adding to your educational experience. Traditional classrooms as well as conference rooms are also utilized to enhance your learning.

As a Criminal Justice student, you will be able to take advantage of the forensic and investigative lab within Cushwa. 

Physical Therapy Facilities

Cushwa Hall

On the ground floor of the Cushwa, you will find traditional, lab and computer classrooms. A research lab is also available for use. All major physical therapy equipment are open for student practice.

Athletic Training Facilitiy

In addition to whirlpools and exercise equipment, you will have access to a swimming pool, physical fitness room and cardiovascular lab. The facility is used for demonstrations and to increase your learning experience.
