Press Day features keynote by WKBN's Stan Boney
About 100 students from a dozen Mahoning Valley high schools will attend the Youngstown State University Press Day on Monday, May 15 on campus, featuring a keynote address by local television news veteran Stan Boney, anchor of WKBN-27 First News.
The event in Kilcawley Center starts at 8:45 a.m. with a welcome by YSU President Jim Tressel, followed by Boney’s remarks. Boney came to Youngstown in 1979 and began his career at 33-WYTV, working as a sports anchor, weatherman and co-anchor. He joined WKBN-27 First News in 2015 after 36 years with 33-WYTV.
At 10 a.m., participants will break out into three sessions featuring veteran Vindicator photographer Bill Lewis; Trevor Ivan, a journalism educator, communications professional and yearbook expert; and Adam Earnheardt, chair of the YSU Department of Communication.
A roundtable discussion with Ivan, Mary Beth Earnheardt, director of YSU’s journalism program, and Shelley Blundell, assistant professor of Journalism and Communication, will follow at 11 a.m.
The day concludes with an awards ceremony at 12:15 p.m.
