Bio
Dr. Kristin Bruns is an Associate Professor in the Counseling Program and serves as the Coordinator of the College Counseling & Student Affairs Counseling Program. She has over 15 years of clinical experience working in various settings including community mental health centers, private practice, and college counseling centers.
She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (Ohio). Dr. Bruns holds a M.A. in Community Counseling from the University of South Dakota (CACREP accredited) and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the Kent State University (CACREP accredited). She is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, Ohio Counseling Association, and the Northcentral Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. Dr. Bruns’ areas of interest with regard to research and clinical work are: suicide training in the counselor education curriculum, protective factors for suicide, and termination practices in counseling. She has published in ACA Journals and served as a past President for the Eastern Ohio Counseling Association. Dr. Bruns is responsible for teaching courses across in the both the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and College Counseling & Student Affairs Programs. She coordinates and teaches the Student Affairs courses in the clinical course sequence (e.g., Practicums and Internships) and the College Mental Health course as this is her specialty area.
