Bio

Dr. David Griswold is a Distinguished Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at Youngstown State University (YSU) in Youngstown, Ohio. He has made significant contributions to the field, particularly in the area of dry needling and orthopedic manual therapy. Dr. Griswold's academic journey includes receiving his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from YSU, followed by earning a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Physical Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in 2017. His educational background also includes a Bachelor of Arts from Muskingum University in 2005.
Dr. Griswold is distinguished by his commitment to both teaching and research. He has been recognized with several awards for his excellence in scholarship, service, and teaching by Youngstown State University, including Distinguished Professorship Awards in Scholarship, Service, and Teaching across various years (2019, 2021, and 2023). His scholarly work includes contributions to a wide range of topics in physical therapy, with numerous publications in reputable journals and a focus on improving clinical outcomes through innovative techniques such as dry needling.

Dr. Griswold holds three nationally recognized certifications in orthopedic manual therapy: Certified Mulligan Practitioner (CMP), Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT), and Certified Integrative Dry Needling (CIDN). His expertise in dry needling is further underscored by his role in teaching over 65 courses nationwide for the Integrative Dry Needling concept, demonstrating his dedication to advancing the practice and education of physical therapy.

Dr. Griswold's current research interests are centered on understanding the physiological mechanisms and clinical outcomes of dry needling for orthopedic-related spinal conditions. His goal as an educator is not just to teach techniques but to provide a neurologic framework for common conditions that can transform clinical practice
