Arts Mean Business series focuses on copyright Oct. 7

[[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"3861","attributes":{"class":"media-image alignright size-full wp-image-5971","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"275","height":"119","alt":"Arts Mean Business"}}]]Arts Mean Business, a free professional development series designed to help artists thrive, continues with “Copyright and Contracts for Arts Professionals” 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the McDonough Museum of Art on the campus of Youngstown State University. “The Arts Means Business Series provides a wealth of information from experts meant to help artists succeed in the business world,” said Michael R. Crist, interim dean of the College of Creative Arts and Communication. “The true entrepreneurial nature of the arts requires that artist stay up to date on all aspects associated with making a living with their art.” The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available at the Wick Avenue deck for a nominal fee. YSU’s College of Creative Arts and Communication and the community arts and cultural group, Power of the Arts, are the presenters of the series, with additional support from the Raymond John Wean Foundation. The presenter is Denise Glinatsis Bayer, an attorney with the law firm of Harrington, Hoppe and Mitchell, Ltd., and founder and executive director of The Legal Creative. This session will offer a general primer on copyright law in terms non-lawyers can understand. It provides an overview of copyright and intellectual property laws and issues, dispelling some of the common myths such as the "poor man's copyright." Bayer earned a bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater from YSU and a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve School of Law, where she earned an honors concentration in Law and the Arts from CWRU's internationally recognized Center for Law, Technology, and the Arts. An active community arts volunteer, Bzyer founded and acts as volunteer executive director of The Legal Creative. She currently serves on the Executive and Development Committees for the Board of Trustees for Opera Western Reserve.
