Guest Artist Xavier Jara in recital Oct. 27
The Dana School of Music announces a guest artist recital by classical guitarist Xavier Jara 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27. in Bliss Recital Hall followed by a master class 9 - 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, also in the Recital Hall.
Both events are free and open to the public.
Winner of the 2016 Guitar Foundation of America International Classical Guitar Competition, Jara also took first place in the youth division of the Indiana International Guitar Competition. Since then, he has won first prizes in the 2012 Andrés Segovia Competition in Velbert, Germany, Boston Guitarfest, International Guitar Competition of Viseu and the Sinaia International Guitar Competition in Romania.
Jara has performed on the National Public Radio program “From the Top.” A native of Minnesota, Jara was a student of Alan Johnston at the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis until 2011 when he moved to Paris to study with Judicael Perroy for six years. Jara completed his Bachelor’s Degree at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris.
Jara's 2017-2018 concert tour began in September 2017. He will perform more than 50 concerts in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala & Panama, including a concert at Carnegie Hall on April 5, 2018.
