Jazz Ensembles to pay tribute to Harry Meshel, Buddy Rich & Thelonious Monk Oct. 16

The Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University announces a concert by the Jazz Ensembles, directed by Kent Engelhardt and Dave Kana on 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2017 in Kilcawley Center’s Chestnut Room.

The concert is free and open to the public.

“Senator Meshel was an ardent and generous supporter of the YSU Jazz area for many years,” noted Engelhardt.

Engelhardt’s ensemble will pay tribute to the late Senator, Harry Meshel with the performance of Dizzy Gillespie’s “Things To Come.” Engelhardt’s group will also celebrate the centennials of Thelonious Monk and Buddy Rich, performing “Ya Gotta Try” and “Basically Blues” from the Buddy Rich Band and Thelonious Monk’s “Ruby, My Dear” and “Evidence.”

The ensemble led by Kana will perform music by Manny Albam, Ernie Wilkins and Gordon Goodwin.

Parking is available in the M30 Wick Avenue parking deck via Walnut Street (GPS address is 100 Wade Street, Youngstown OH 44502) for a nominal fee.
